Word about ended up having 3 game variations after final development and extensive play testing. It's been a journey and after finally making use of the colour straps I have in the card design, something interesting was brought to my attention.
"What if a player is colour blind?"
Well, that just tossed the Accessibility wrench into my fine-tuned machine. To the point and very practical, I needed to address the concern post haste. I took into consideration what I have in my design, and with a little reworking I could get it to work. The game dice for Shout-a-bout (3rd variant of the game) requires players to use a dice roll to determine a set rule.
If the roll produces a blue circle, a "MIDDLE" text, and a "+2", the player must use this condition in accordance with the card to be flipped over. I had already set the word MIDDLE and +2 in white on black circles. The only issue was the colour dot(s). So I was provided a simple fix. Use a word. Well, I could have a blue coloured "BLUE" on the dice, but I didn't quite care for that visually. I opted to keep the coloured dot and just add a white letter. The white "B" on the blue dot falls inline with the other designs and serves both the graphical appeal and the colour-impaired. And since I only have three colours, Blue, Red and Yellow, I can get away with just using a single letter to indicate the colour.
