Hallo, I've been a member officially for a while, but I haven't actually taken part much. To enter this compo, do I just leave a reply to the main thread with my summary in it?
Send a message to Cogentesque containing your game entry.
Also see Game Design Showdown for more information. But the actual showdown that Cogentesque wrote takes precedence.
Perfect response, thanks Herc.
yes if you want to enter - just rack your brain for a few minutes and email me (cogentesque) with the bar on the left
(Personal -> Messages) with 300 words describing your game! That's it! :D
sam
I wanted to ask, how do I send pictures in the message? It won't let me, or I just can't find it. Thanks.
heya empires! Yeah ok so there should be an "attach" file at the bottom when you start an email (hmm..is there?)
If that doesnt work, then you can simply upload it as a normal picture here: http://www.bgdf.com/node/add/image
and then just link me into it when I put your entry up :)
Remember all that as soon as I am able, the entries will go up, so if you haven't forwarded your entry to me, please do so! :)
Well. That is certainly a large number!
19 Entries for Dragon Dice and at least 1 more to come! Awesome!
Right, the names and titles of the games are in the subject line (above the actual post itself) to keep everything in the same order. Remember:
1. You have 6 votes to use.
2. You can vote up to three times for a single entry.
3. Message me [Cogentesque] with your votes before the end of the 15th March 2012
Tip: A nice way to divide your votes is a simple 3, 2, 1. But yes, if you MUST you can vote as six separate 1's :P
After voting finishes at the end of the 15th of March, we will open up a "Critique" thread. This is where we will post our comments and advices and our plaudits (yeah, that's right, "plaudits" - bet you haven't heard that one in a while!) to try and help the designers make the most from their entry.
Vote away!
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!
Do not upload image files using that node...
If you do, we will be able to see who entered that GDS entry!!
That could bias our voting, and it's supposed to remain anonymous!!
It looks like this month's entries will not be anonymous and thus it may not be an issue.
I suppose you can't vote for yourself?
Course you cant Avianfoo! :P - it wouldn't be proper ^^
AN ANNOUNCMENT!
Ok, so partly in the light of Comrardereship and partly in the light of "I forgot that it was meant to be anonymous" the games are not anonymous!
In fact, you can specifically go to the titles of each entry and it lists their name!
1. I personally quite like this approach. I believe it fosters a warm community spirit as opposed to behind a faceless mask of anonymity! Although, some people I am sure would prefer the anonymity - this month everyone has the ability to see everyone else!
2. One of the main points of the anonymity was to avoid bias voting. I think we are all quite grown up enough not to "Vote for mai Best Friend!!" so remember - vote how you want to, the VOTING is still secret!
3. There have been a few more entries posted since yesterday (due to the gmt / est thing I have accepted all entries up to now) So remember to take these new entries along with the rest (I have only had two votes come through so far and have emailed them asking to take the new submissions into consideration)
So I eagerly await your votes all!
Thanks so much for baring with me :)
sam
Remember all, you have only until the 15th to place your votes. I am away on holiday the morning of the 16th, so I very much would suggest to give me your votes before.
IF YOU HAVE SUBMITTED A GAME: YOU SHOULD VOTE! So far I have had about 6 votes, which is not enough! ^^
Thanks very much all, really looking forward to counting up the votes.
sam
I voted! There's some really solid concepts in the running this month.
Out of curiosity, have any GDS concepts ever been turned into finished games later on?
Heya Star!
Good question man, I am pretty sure that a good handful of them have been turned into pnp's. I know invisiblejon has a stash of his entries and previous bits and pieces on his blog and I know that matt ridlen is working on his entry to a previous competition as a main stay game idea.
I am pretty sure that a lot of entries serve as a jumping point - or something to work on for the designers that would influence them later in there designing :)
Thanks for voting man.
Make sure you vote ASAP! I am on holiday tomorrow for two weeks and will not be able to collate any further votes! ^^
If my entry (Dragon of the Four Winds) gets any love, I'm think about running an ultra-small Kickstarter for it (10 days, $200 bucks). The game just needing four screen-printed custom dice, a bag and a small rules book means I should be able to do for like $10 a piece even in a small quantity.
WE HAVE A WINNER! - Its a Tie!!
First of all, I’d like to say - Wow! I’m so happy with the amount of positive responses! The submission, the votings, and the lovely messages that you guys sent me expressing your good will and appreciation in regards to this run of GDS.
Everybody did well, some did better, some did worse, but you ALL rock.As there were so many entries here are the votes for the top 5 games:
1. 4. Avianfoo's "Ryu Rally: First Race" - 13 Votes
1. 7. TeaisforTim's "Have Dragon, Will Slay" - 13 Votes
3. 2. Pastor_Mora's "Cursed Lands" - 10 Votes
4. 8. ryanwanger's "My Dragon is Trapped!" - 9 Votes
5. 10. Orangebeard's "Dragon-fire Tunnel" - 8 Votes
5. 12. richdurham's "King Dragon" - 8 Votes
Onto the critique thread! Now as they are so many entries - you do not need to extoll a story book on each one, but a note on a few entries would make the designers very happy (wouldn't it you?!). Remember the purpose of this is to become a better designer and as such the best you could do is to tell the entries you voted for why you voted for them AND to tell the entries you didn’t vote for why how they could have won your vote.
If you are not up on the top 5, why not?! Ask people! Find out what positive ideas others’ think would go well in your game, perhaps a minor change here or a theme change there, remember this is not a “win or lose” thing, everybody has won already - just form taking the time to enter, you have exercised your thinkin’ muscles and are better off for it - now we learn more about the science and magic of game design!
Thank you everybody for your support of this GDS - you are all very very awesome people.

Right guys, I have already had 4 or so entries, it's looking really good! :)
Here are some answers to some questions about the challenge:
How finished does the entry need to be? Do I need to write every card and chart that would be involved in the game
Hell no!
-If you have an idea , just slap it down. As long as it is no MORE than 300 words (200 is fine :) - then that will do. The game does not need to be finished or publisher-ready or anything of the sort. Simply if you think it might be a cool game, tell us about it! We will all then give you our comments and help you become a better designer! Remember this is rally the community spirit and help people become better designers.
What about art for my game? Can I borrow art? Should I avoid using art that is not mine to use?
Art is not necessary!
If you want to include a picture, you can! If you haven't got any - don't worry! Not having art will definitely not be a problem. There is no art requirement in these GDS's - if you want to pop something in to help give people an idea about your game, then go ahead! It's just an added extra for us guys to look at and go "wow...cool..." by NO means is it a requirement :)
