Whats going on guys my name is Daniel Lanza (some of you may know me from my old username Team Gambit) and I'm the creator of the new up-and-coming game called Zodiak. Zodiak is a game where the strategy of Chess meets the mechanics of a collectible card game.

In Zodiak players build a team of 20 Units (7 active Units and 13 benched Units). These Units are 2" miniatures that players use to move and attack with throughout the game. Each Unit has a "Class" which is used to tell the player how the Unit moves, attacks and lets your opponent know who he/she needs to destroy. In order to win Zodiak a player must destroy their opponent's Hero.

There are 4 different classes in Zodiak.
Engineer: Moves like a knight but attacks in straight paths horizontally or vertically.
Monk: Moves like a bishop and attacks diagonally.
Warrior: Moves like a rook and attacks horizontally or vertically.
Hero: moves and attacks like a king/queen.

Along with their class, each Unit has a Zodiac sign (Aries,Virgo,Libra, etc). These signs play an important roll when it comes to a player building their team. Some Zodiac signs conflict with each other and cannot be active on the map at the same time. Zodiak signs also have different powers which adds an extra level of strategy to a players team building.

Along with the player's Units is their Enchantment deck. This is a 40 card deck used to bring a certain level of luck and uncertainty to the game and helps to turn the tides of the battle at any given moment. Enchantment decks are fully customizable and are constructed by a variety of different enchantment cards the player has collected (through trades or purchases). Certain types of cards like "Unit Calls" and lv "3" enchantments have a limit as to how many a player can use in their deck.

Unit Call cards are used to call additional Units to the map from either the bench or grave. A player is only allowed to pack 6 "Unit Call" cards in their enchantment deck at any time.

Lv 3 enchantments are any enchantment with the number 3 on the bottom right corner of the card's image. Lv 3 enchantments can be played on either players turn and in response to an effect (whether it be from a Unit or another enchantment). You are only allowed to pack 10 Lv 3 enchantments in your deck.

The final aspect of the game is the Map. The Map is where the entire game takes place. An individual player's map looks a lot like a chess board cut in half. Each player has only half of a full map so when 2 players sit down to battle they put both of their halves together. Different maps have different terrains printed on it and a player can buy and collect different mass-produced maps or design their own with their own terrains and images. Maps are printed on paper or playmat material.

Map terrains do not directly effect the game but some Units and enchantment cards may affect how these terrains are used.

Zodiak is different from many table top and trading card games currently in existence because it gives the player a lot of room for customization. Players can choose which Class and Zodiac sign to give to their Units, what card to use in their deck, and even what kind of map they'll use. With all the options Zodiak gives you there is no way any 2 players will play the same way even if they're using similar Units!

The world of Zodiak is vast! There are hundreds of different creatures and clans inhabiting its world, all just waiting for you to take control. Become a Zodiak yourself. Wield the strength of the 12 signs and unite the world once again! How will you rule? What is your strategy? Who will you use? In Zodiak possibilities are endless! Are you ready?

yea that's my next step. I'm totally reinventing our marketing. I woke up all our social networking sites and I'm re-branding the image before we go to kickstarter. I should have full miniatures made within a month.

Clarification

Hero: moves and attacks like a king/queen.

This is a little unclear since the king and queen move differently in chess. They each move orthogonally and diagonally, but a king can only move one cell per turn while a queen can move any number of valid cells per turn.
Also; are there ranges for attacks or are we talking adjacent cells only?

How big are the maps? A chess board is 8x8; does this mean each player map is 8x4 cells?

You have a very ambitious game here and it interests me greatly.

Every unit has set range,

Every unit has set range, agility, Hp, and attack power. I'm not going to get to specific on game mechanics on this first thread so please be patient.

As for the Map. Each player has half a map and when put together the map is 12x10.

If you'd like to get deeper insight into the game before I post it on here you can check out our blog and read the interview I did for D20crit.com

elements instead of zodiac signs

hello
nice sounding game, wish you best luck.
how about using element names instead of zodiac signs, ppl can deduce compatible and incompatible ones from their names very easily such as fire and water are incompatible. there can be two possible sets of elements, one is classical set of fire-water-earth-air asshown in avatar airbender series. water X fire and earth X air

other possible set is five elements in feng shui (water-wood-fire-earth-metal)

elements in this set have incompatible and enhancing ones wrt to each other
pm for more info

Thats not a ban idea but it

Thats not a ban idea but it wont work for this game. Players are able to choose their Zodiak signs by attaching different magnetic plates to the bases of their characters. Each sign gives the Unit a different ability.

Besides the Zodiak sign and the Unit's class, every Unit has a type "Water, Fire, Earth, Air, Dark, Light". In Zodiak types are not related to the user's sign but depicts their power and alliances. Type also helps to catagories different Units who are not part of a clan. That way players can feel free to build a mash up of different Units and use Enchantment cards to support them.

Than you have to consider the Map (which you couldn't consider since I haven't said anything about it yet =p) The map is made up of 4 different elements: Earth, Water, Air, Fire. These do not directly effect the game and in no way inhibit Units from moving on them due to type, but using things like Terrain Enchantments may change how these different elements (spaces) on the map effect the Unit's on them and the overall game.

Zodiak is a war based game so it has a more of alligance based game format than a strength and weaknesses one (which we tested and it was horrible)

I guess at this point I should just post up how the Map works because it seems like many people are starting to wonder lol

This project is being put on

This project is being put on hold so we can finish Bello! (If that is what we're calling it). Bello! and Zodiak will feature the same art and take place in the same universe but cards will not be interchangeable because of the 2 different styles of play.
You all should see a hard prototype of Bello! by next week once we have all the art in order. To learn more about Bello! please keep an eye out on BGDF and visit Bello!'s introduction post here: http://www.bgdf.com/node/7082
