Anyone using an eCommerce platform?

I'm trying to set up the ability to sell copies of my stuff.

I had HOPED that I could attach a MailChimp-hosted web page to a PayPal account via a "buy this now" button, but apparently MailChimp doesn't see itself as a company that should let you do that (even though they're trying to move into the Landing Page business)

So now I'm looking at Shopify. Probably just moving everything over there and paying $29/month to have it be my primary webpage that also sells stuff. And I'll get a card reader thingy I can use to sell in person as well.

Does anyone have any advice on whether or not that's a good choice?

https://www.storeenvy.com and open a FREE store (not the marketplace which costs a 10% per transaction fee + processing fees). Of course nobody will KNOW your store UNLESS you LINK it to a website somewhere...

There is only one (1) bad thing: you can only sell up to 500 different items per store.

That's the downer. Good luck with the sales of your game...

And remember you can NAME your store: "my store name".storeenvy.com

That's kind of why they have the "marketplace" to allow users to FIND the store... I don't think Google can crawl the interior website only the LANDING page IF you link it to a website (as I have already stated).

So it's FREE but you need to link it to your website in order for people to be able to FIND the page. Else wise I don't think the page will be found via a Google search (I could be wrong... but why else would you OPT for a paid marketplace ... If you can get it FREE and sell all you want?!)

Another option my Publisher is using is...

https://www.trycelery.com which is also FREE but asks for a 2% transaction fee per sale. But no MONTHLY fee either. Just a small fee for each sale in addition to processing fees (I believe only Stripe — not 100% certain).

I know Store Envy allows for BOTH Stripe and PayPal.

Not sure about Celery... You can check that out ... or send support an e-mail to see the turn-around support time and get the answer to that question.

I've seen BOTH in action ... and ...

I would prefer the Store Envy site which looks more like a catalogue with various products that can be bought.

Celery looks ... hmm... Less professional.

But that's just my opinion. You can check out both and figure which one works better for you. I think if you have a limited amount of products that can fit into one (1) page, Celery could be okay.

But for a STORE SHOP, I would definitely go with Store Envy.

Again that's just my own opinion.

Note: It's also about CONTENT too. Like if you only forsee having like 4-5 products ... well maybe a Celery page might be good. But if you have all kinds of ADD-ONs and extra content to your games (like extra dice, game mats, boosters, etc.) well then maybe a Store Envy page might be more appropriate.

It's up to YOU. But I would NOT pay $29/mth when there are service which are FREE (or almost free at 2% per sale)...

For now I'm only going to have a few SKUs. But I also want to be set up to take payments in person, invoice local game stores, etc. Though I suppose I can do invoices via paypal, and taking payments is pretty easy to handle once I get a card reader.

I run an ecommerce business on Shopify as my day job. It’s a good platform. Integrates nicely with MailChimp, the customization and data features are good, and their payments are reliable and quick. Tons of good apps available. Can’t go wrong.

fair enough. maybe give them a call, their support is generally pretty good and they could find a cheap plan.
