identifying the owner isn't selfish
Company name opinion. Thank you.
Dream Planet, Nestor Planet Games, North Star Games,????
Nestor's Dream?
One thing: Will people (publishers, printers) have trouble understanding the word "Nestor" over the phone? I owned a game store called Golden Mean Games. You'd think that it wouldn't be a big deal, but people (wholesalers, etc.) had frequently trouble with understanding that name on the phone.
Them: "Golben Mead Games?"
Me: "No. Golden, like 'made out of gold'. Then Mean, like 'average'..."
Them: "Huh?"
Me: (ugh)
...and so on.
Heck, people sometimes have trouble with Invisible City.
No, and actually, I rather like just "Hidden Agenda" without "games" or "publishing" in the name.
Next Great Game, from Hidden Agenda.
I like the feel of that, assuming people already know that you're making games.
Next Great Game, from Hidden Agenda.
I like the direction or meaning of hidden agenda games, but I don't think it has a vary nice ring to it for a game company name. Might as well say "M.O. games". I don't know if this has been asked but what is your intent or idea you want your company to represent. I could help generate ideas with you much better if I know what your trying to say with the name. I mean can you give me a clearer sort of idea?
So cool, Sidd! But registered! :((
hiddenagenda registered
hiddengames registered
hiddenlab registered
Maybe Hidden Agenda Games but it's a bit too long.
We are so close!!
Hidden agenda sounds suspiciously wicked. When some one says you have a hidden agenda it means your being dishonest. So no loss that it’s taken.
You can still keep that mysterious feel and come across as a friendly & family safe.
Worlds Edge has an adventurous sound to it, exciting, and unknown but without any attached stigma.
Worlds Edge Games
Worlds Edge Design
Worlds Edge Entertainment
Or you go with a lost civilization sort of feel to capture the same kind of energy.
Lost Civilization Games
This would be good for you line of abstracts you plan on releasing. You could theme them all as ancient games with the back story that archeologists found them in the Amazon or some other remote location.
On the other hand you may wish to drink from the well of the unknowable future. The word future, and even time travel has been used in game company names already. Still there is room here.
Temporal Rift has a nice ring to it.
You said 'dream' was important to you. Some suggestions (add Games, Board Games, Labs, Workshop, etc. as appropriate):
Dreamland, Dreamworld, Dreamscape, Dreamplane, Dreamrift, Dreamsky, Dreamrealm, Dreamstate, Dreamspace, Dreamshift,
Dreamcraft, Dreamspun, Dreamweaver, Dreamsmith, Dreamforge, Dream Machine, Dreamatorium
Dreambeast, Dreamhunter, Dreamseeker, Dreamwalker, Dream Master, Dreamlord
Dreamcycle, Dreamsaga, Dreamlife, Dreamflight, Dreambound,
Dreamstone,
Dream Small Games (as opposed to everyone telling you to "Dream Big!")
Wild Dream Games
Everdream
Nightvision
REM Games
Lucid Dream (a dream where you are conscious of it being a dream, and can therefore control events)
Oneiromancer Games (oneiromancy is performing magic/fortunetelling based on dreams)
Oneironaut or Oneironauta (thus, an oneironaut would be one who voyages in dreams)
Morpheus Games (Morpheus is the Greek god of dreams, and can take any shape he wishes)
Ludomancy Games (Ludo = game, mancy = magic/divination)
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
And just a few Spanish ideas (I actually speak Portuguese, not Spanish, so some of these might not be right). Unfortunately, 'sueño' and 'juego' are both unreadable by the average English speaker. But below are some names that have a Spanish flavor and are pronounceable by Americans. They might not know what they mean, but may feel positive connotations.
Miralargo Games
Avista Games
Tierra Distante Games
Rio Grande Games (oh, wait...)
If it were my company: "Time Tiles Publishing" or "End of Time Games". Mind you, those names hold meaning to me. It's not enough to say "it sounds cool!"
unknowable future.
Ah! The future! I wish I'd know what's there. Maybe the name of my company!
Thank you, David. Keep kicking my **** at Cannon.

Nestor, considering your situation, I could understand that you've got your business together, and now you're sumped for a name. Since we suport eachother on this forum, I won't say get out a thisorous. But I do want to make a serious sugestion. Take it or leave it.
In creating a company, get out of the box! It's cliche to say that but I don't think most poeple that say that really understand what they're talking about. It would be a great asset to you as bussiness owner if you really aquainted yourself with your subconscious mind as a tool for your success. This is a fun thread, but you really don't need everyone doing something for you that you could take care of in a moment.
I will say this about my answer to what I'm quoting above. The most ingenious prolific creators, learn to go to the future. That is where they get their ideas. They learn to acces the future in their mind, and bring back their ideas.
I don't care if you listen to any of this. From what I see though is this, if you stay in the box, you are subject to chance, social rules, ........etc. If you break free, you make the rules and nothing will stand in your way. As long as your deturmined, you will suceed against all odds.
I'm not trying to give a pep talk. It's just after 77 posts, you still have no name. Only you can know the best name. If you become aquainted with your subconscious mind, you can pull anything brilliant up in no time. I wish you the best Nestor!
I keep looking for a name because not all of the company issues are still solved. I need to test a couple of production processes (printing and laminating methacrylate) and get a quote from a local printer (everything this coming week). If everything goes as I expected, I'll make the web site and will start the whole thing. If not (materials not working as I expected or too expensive), I'll need to investigate a bit more so the thing will be delayed a bit.
As the web site will be focused on the games, and the games depend on production, I can't design the web site without the production being solved.
So that's why I keep this thread alive. Because I have the time. When you have time you can use it to improve things, including your name. And most of the ideas exposed here may be used by someone else. That's why this site is so great.
I'll probably name it 'nestorgames', as things can change in the future (future again) but only 2 will stay: Me and the games. I wanted to avoid being selfish, but thanks to your opinions I see this is not a problem. This throws away most of your efforts to help me, and I'm very sorry for that.
Thank you again. You've really helped me, even if you thing you've not.
Prepare your prototypes.
Néstor
This sounds so cool Nestor! I'm excited for you and am looking forward to seeing your new site. I don't think that I didn't help you. It's not your name I wanted to have influence on. I just want to root your challenging ambitious project on...root you on- give you my suport.
Here's something else that may help and is something that helps me to remember constantly. As far as disapointments go or if something doesn't go quite how you wanted it or planed it, something better than you expected is likely on it's way.
If you want to publish little games that are fun and cheap, why don't you try calling it
TAPAS GAMES?
...like the small portions of delicious food I used to find in my vacation in Madrid?
Or, if you like DIAMOND, why don't you use the Spanish word for it (is it "diamante", like in Italy, right? "Diamante Games"?).
Or, to be event more stereotypical, let me add a simple: "LOS GAMES".
"Dream Golem" sounds bad to me. Maybe with something more abstract and short, like "Blue Golem" or "Go Golem" or "Mad Golem" or "Los Golems" (again!) ?
My two... uhm ... eurocents.
I would prefer with Games in the name because it conveys what you do.
*How about Black Pearl (with or without Games)? Hard to find, rare, valuable, worth it to look for.
*Abstraction or Abstrakt (all games are abstracted to some degree).
*Dreamverse
*Player's Choice (Gamer's Choice)
*Nestor Bradley (lol)
*Eden (bountiful, luscious, remote, paradise, hidden, ect)
*Jetstream (focusing on your 'on demand' and quick convenient over the internet service), maybe Gamestream
*Gamescape (mixing game with landscape) taking in a broad range of attractive games. Landscapes have fairly positive connotations. Might also be Gam Escape (not sure what kind of meaning that would have).
*Lucidity (seems Spanishy in my mind) and sounds pretty cool. Would also suggest clear, concise, pure types of games.
That's what I have so far. Hope some of those help and aren't registered.
Oh so you want us to brainstorm, check if its registered and...run your company for you?
LOL, I actually work for an Internet Service Provider and deal with Domain registration.
I find http://www.networksolutions.com/ to work well. Do you prefer a .com or could you do .net, .org, .biz?
Gamescape Publishing, Gamescape Games, GamescapeBG (boardgames), GamescapeInc, Gamescape Online (although that kind of makes it sound like an online game).
edit: even gamescapegames.com was registered, seems like you will have to get further out of the box!
coco,
do you have a list of contenders at least or are you still at square one?
hey...wait a minute...Square One Games!! That's pretty good...and fitting. would have a nice logo too.
So, you can write also a little card game about a company trying to register a new name for itself. :)

Yeah! Probably! It seems like you've read my mind. Planet and North Star were on top of my list!
