Greetings everyone, I am Mr.Misfit and this is the current v .5 of my solitaire Strategic Wargame Rise and Decline of a Galactic Imperium.

Rise and Decline of a Galactic Imperium was inspired by both Consim Press´ The Hunters and Decision Games´ Struggle for the Galactic Empire, though the former served more of a scrib sheet of what to copy while the latter served as an example of how NOT to do it. Other influences include "Sid Meier´s Alpha Centauri" and "Babylon 5", and surely many others, but those are the big ones.

As a solitaire wargame, the player leads his nation through up to 60 turns of three different "ages" of a nations history, from the rise, to the period of highest power, down to the inevitable fall from inside and outside sources. Each turn the player will encounter random events, diplomatic conundrums, great battles and economic dilemma, always wondering which action to invest into during this and future turns.

Wow this is so 1970's SSI that I just love it. I really do. I will give it a try if I can get some free time. This might also make a great mobile app.

=M=

I have added a recently made

I have added a recently made VASSAL-Module of game in it´s current state, it´s only rudimentary but should be functional to test out most of the mechanics in itself and it should help to somewhat ease the playability requirement.

WOW, thanks. I wanted to play struggle of the galactic empire but the game was very intimidating and expansive.

I hope I'll have some time to try your game.

Your game sounds pretty

Your game sounds pretty intense!

I'm curious why you use "Imperium" as your title, rather then Empire. Imperium is an abstract, like the word "power," not a noun (as far as I can tell). So I'm not sure Imperium is gramatically correct here. You may want to double check.

First, thanks ^^

Second, that question has come up on Boardgamegeek as well. I chose Imperium deliberately, though at first not for the meaning by itself but rather the way the title sounds more unique.

Now, fun aside, Imperium (which by itself is only latin for empire) is a phrase often enough used in the english language to denote a greater power or, more often, especially in connection to the roman empire (Imperium Romanum ;) ) and as the player has to deal with a senate and senators, the imperial rule counter uses a crown and laurel and the coloured palette is somewhat modeled after the roman empire, I find the use of Imperium more fitting.

Also it makes me think of Imperium (1990) which was a great game =)

PS: If there might be a more grammatically correct form for Imperium than the one I am currently using, please tell me, I´ve only ever learned enough latin for my law degree and that is nowhere close enough to really use or read latin at all xD

I see what you're saying about Imperium being latin for "Empire," but the rest of your title is in English, so your average reader will assume it's the English useage. Then again, in board games, as you've said, Imperium seems to be used as a synonym for Empire regularly. Perhaps ignore my comments. :D

I think that Imperium sounds

I think that Imperium sounds cool and I say go for it. Most people get the idea of it, in the context you are using it in the title. A good portion of English is context based, anyway, and anyone that is confused can quickly see its Latin origins.

As for the game, I wish I had the time and patience for it... I briefly scanned the rules and pieces, and it looks cool from what I've glimpsed.

Twofold question

So, some time has gone by and a lot of water flows down a river.

I am quite happy with the current version, but the lack of playtest reaction miffs me somehow. Anyone want to elaborate on their experience testing the game?

On a sidenote, I am currently thinking about expanding the game severely, with sub-categories of units, new special sectors, a redefined combat system, a much expanded event system and other such hijinks. But I am unsure, whether the game needs that or if I am just adding chrome on top of it for the hell of it.

Reactions, opinions, some two cents?
