Hey everyone!

So we posted recently about premiering the newest version of our game Inglorious Space at GameStorm (a game convention in Vancouver, WA this weekend). We have also been able to reach our goal of launching our Kickstarter in time for the con!

Inglorious Space is a game for the retro space scroller (shmup) enthusiast in all of us. If you ever played Galaga, Space Invaders, or if you just enjoy card games (the mechanics should appeal to anyone), check us out!

We're looking to raise enough funds for a small print run and we're already almost halfway there! Please visit our website to learn more about our game and our KS page to support our project.

Thanks everyone!

A few thoughts:

1. I love the lego instructions for the $5 level. That was a great idea.

2. The art looks good. It definitely matches the theme you're going for.

3. How do you play? I'll never back a game that doesn't have a how to play video.

4. Is there a stretch goal to replace the 2 piece game mats with boards? The boards from Game Crafter are so much better than the mats.

Good luck!

Agreed

I too love the Lego building instructions idea, as well as some of your reward tiers.

However, I'm not really sold on your project. I looked at the page about as long as your average kickstarter shopper (enough to scan the tiers and look at some of your text), and nothing stood out enough to catch my eye and get me excited enough about the game to back it. Also, for the record, I rarely watch the videos on a kickstarter page unless I'm excited enough about the project to put a few minutes in to watch them. Does anyone else do that too?

I'm now going to try really hard to tell you why I wasn't interested without going back to look, because I want to preserve my opinions as they were formed when I first looked at your page. If my cursory lookabout on your page wasn't enough to give me the following information, then maybe it needs to be placed in a more prominent location (your tiers information was pretty high up on the page, if I remember correctly, which may be the wrong place). Please understand, I'm not trying to be critical; I'm trying to show you clearly what I thought as I looked at your page, which may help you to modify it and get more people excited about it.

1. I didn't have a clear concept of what kind of game it was. It looks like a game about flying around in starfighters, and each player can play a different pilot and such, but I don't know how it's done. That was perhaps the biggest detractor for me - what is it?
2. The artwork on the board didn't stand out to me. Some of it (like the green (?) arrows along the bottom of the board) didn't really look polished, as though it was hastily made in an image editor. A gradient effect with an embossing would really make those pop out, especially since it looks like an important... something.
3. What do the game pieces look like? You may have shown them, but they weren't memorable - maybe add a little shot of the pieces and cards up close?
4. I saw you were adding a sticker sheet at the $5 tier, which is likely affordable, but for some reason, I didn't really believe in it. Maybe because I couldn't see what it would look like on the page.
5. What do other people think about it? I didn't see much at the beginning that talks about what others thought of the game - is it fun? And is it like any other games that people have played?

I sincerely hope that helps. I apologize if it came off as too harsh, but with a few tweaks, your kickstarter page might get off to a much stronger start!

Thank you for your input! It didn't come off as overly harsh, we truly appreciate anything you can tell us to make this a better project.

We're going to be releasing a video shortly that will go over mechanics more thoroughly, so please check back.

Kickstarter Update

Hey guys!

We wanted to let you know that we're taking your feedback seriously (and that it's good feedback).

We looked into adding a tier or a stretch goal for a better board but it would almost double the price of the game. The boards that TGC has are SO nice but they're only a couple inches off of the size we need, so to get the right one, we'd have to go way up. It's not really feasible. We hope people will understand that we want to keep this game as affordable as possible.

Both of you mentioned learning more about the mechanics of the game. On that note, we added a video detailing game play on the Kickstarter site (down the page under "how does it play"). It hopefully also gives better views of the components so potential players can see what they'll be using.

Sorry it took so long for the video. Preparing for the con was a flurry of activity. Please keep adding feedback!

Why the low goal?

I'm very curious to know how you arrived at your $2,400.00 funding goal, as it seems VERY low for this or any game that isn't more than a few cards. At what quantity are you manufacturing the game? Did you account for your own time, cost of art, etc.? Looks like you did most all on your own, which is very commendable, but it doesn't seem as though you account for your efforts in such a low goal.

Also why only ship to the US? Easier, sure...but aren't you excluding a huge part of the market?

I suppose it helps ensure you can make that first print run with the minimum number of backers, have a successful Kickstarter under your belt and get your game out there, which I completely understand. Just curious to know your thought process...

Goal Reasons

Hi Chris,

Since this is our very first kickstarter (and thus people don't know who we are yet) we're planning a very small run. We've partnered with The Game Crafter and had planned for a run as low as 50 copies (though more backers only increases the manufacturing discounts which helps). TGC is handling fulfillment as well (which is a big help). We did a lot of calculating beforehand to make sure that the print costs, kickstarter fees, taxes, and shipping costs would allow us to come out in the green. The more copies backed, the better our margins will be, but at this size we're still ok.

If we grow enough, we'll scale up for larger goals down the road with manufacturers like Panda Games, but for now we're using a very scalable partner that allows us to be flexible with a small goal. It's TGC's flexibility that allows us to set things so modestly. And yes, we're only doing the US right now to make things easier, but hopefully we'll be changing that down the road.

In the case of Inglorious Space, all artwork, layout and everything else was handled internally (except logo design and character bio text) so contracting fees were small.

In short: the tier where you get just the game is $40 + $8 shipping. Multiply that by 50 and you $2400. The tiers above that (like getting drawn as a pilot) help with the margins even if we don't have 50 people backing it at a "get the game" level.

Congratulations!

Well done. It was a modest goal - but TGC-oriented initiatives are not the mass market appeals of say a $100k Kickstarter.

But I know the anticipation to MEET your goal. No matter how large or small your project is - it's always a challenge to meet the expectation your have set.

Again congratulations...!

Note: We too will be using TGC to sell/manufacture our game. It's just easier in terms of logistics and cost. And with a sale, we get 100% of the profits, which makes it even more exciting (and feasible).

Congrats

I know a KS campaign takes a lot of work, and it's awesome when that hard work pays off. Well done.

Thanks! It's been a lot of work, but it feels great to be so close to the end and above the goal, especially since it's our first campaign.
