(I was going to post this in "New Game Ideas," but I suspect that "Announcements" is a more appropriate place for it.)
Howdy all,
As you may or may not know, I managed to actualize the "local boy makes good" story archetype and got a job at Steve Jackson Games as a Game Developer.
In my role of Game Developer, I'm preparing an abstract game for release. The core game is good and solid. However, the game components strongly imply that other games lurk inside them, waiting to be unlocked. Instead of just being one game, this could be a game system, much like Icehouse, Piecepack, Stonehenge, or the Decktet.
Y'all are smart, creative, and awesome. I'd be flattered if you'd be willing to take the time to learn a little about the components, design a game that uses some or all of them, and submit it to SJG for consideration.
Important disclaimers:
1) I can't promise that the game you submit will be used – even if you and I both think it's the best thing since sliced cheese. I don't have final say.
2) If your game is used, I'll ensure you're credited with the design of your game. However, I don't know what compensation (if any) you'll get beyond credit. Again, that's not my domain.
3) This game does not have a print date yet. I can't promise that this game will, in fact, be printed. It is possible that this game will not be printed for a while. That said: It's a good game, and I've been working diligently to get it finished. I'm doing everything I can to push this game to publication.
If you're still interested after that set of rousing motivational statements, use the BGDF message system to let me know. If you have a track record of sensible, reasonable posts on the BGDF forums that contribute positively to the BGDF community, I'll share the game's specs with you. If I share the specs with you, please keep them in the strictest confidence. I'd be very disappointed if they leaked out to the BGDF in general, to BGG, or anywhere else (and it could cost me my job).
I plan to stop accepting game ideas on August 1st. I suppose that means that I'll stop accepting offers to receive the specs on the 18th of July.
Thanks!
A short post-script: The game isn't a game I designed. It's from an outside designer. I don't know why I thought it would be relevant to mention this, but it just seems worth mentioning. – JAL
