Hi Everyone!
My name is Eric and I've been designing games for a few years now, but I haven't really taken it that seriously until recently (except showing designs and ideas to my wife, getting an eye roll, and then moving on).
Last summer my company hired someone in my department that was just as geeky about board games as I am. He seemed to me like a typical jock, he was a teacher before and had taught gym class and coached volleyball. But the second I mentioned Scythe we were off on an adventure of talking about games, introducing each other to games we've never heard of, and trying to find rare and fun games to play.
In November he approached me and said "I have an idea for a board game..." and we haven't looked back since.
We have been able to transform a film/video company that I had established several years ago but haven't really done anything with called - Telekinetic Labs. We are now on our way to getting our first design up on Kickstarter sometime later this year.
In the meantime, I have been trying to be as active on BGG (username is Splanderson) and on any other facebook or forum group I can find. For some reason, It's taken me toooooo long to find this forum, but I'm glad I did! I'm excited to get to know everyone here and to share ideas and discuss topics with you.
Feel free to give me a "what's up" and let's discuss stuff!
(Also, my degree is in film, so I would also love to discuss that with anyone interested in relation to board games.)
Cheers!
Haha, yeah I've thought a lot about helping creators do their Kickstarter videos. I have a lot of talented friends that I could outsource the motion graphics to, etc. Worth a look sometime in the future!
I've also wanted to create a YouTube channel for a while now (I've done a few but they just didn't last due to lack of participation by other parties). I have a pretty great idea for one but I don't have the time right now to actually get it made, but I'm hoping in early fall I can do a "pilot" episode and see if it works.
I've also thought a lot about making playtest videos for designers (film a group playing, all angles to see what players are doing, mics on all players to hear what they are all saying, etc). I might be able to get a business like that going next year if funds allow.
But if you are interested in some tips/tricks, hit me up!
