Hello everyone! My name is Jason Brooks and I am a new board game designer. I've created a company - Brookspun Games - with the goal of designing and self-publishing a variety of fun, engaging games. I promised you four facts so here it goes...
Fact 1: I played Scrabble competitively and ran one of the largest Scrabble tournaments in the US out of Chicago for 10 years before broadening my scope and diving headfirst into the hobby gaming world. (side fact - I have no current plans to design any word games...)
Fact 2: I'm a father of four and plan to teach my kids about the ins and outs of the creative process and running a business with Brookspun Games. One of my boys has already started designing his first game so it seems like my plan is working...
Fact 3: I LOVE puns and double meanings. My company name - Brookspun - and our tagline - Flow with the Fun - both have two meanings. Check out our website at www.brookspungames.com to learn about the origin of each.
Fact 4: I enjoy learning new things and meeting new people. There are so many aspects that go into designing and publishing a board game and it excites me at the prospect of tackling many of these. I know my limitations (you won't find my art in any of my games even though my wife and kids tell me I'm the "best" artist in the family), but that won't stop me from tackling graphic design programs, crowdfunding, creating vendor relationships, marketing, building a brand, playtesting, playtesting, playtesting, and playtesting...
Bonus Fact 5: I will be at Gen Con 50 this week and want to meet a ton of people - especially fellow game designers. If you're going to be there, look for me... I'll be the tall guy in the blue Brookspun Games polo with bright blue shoes (hoping NOT to look like Buddy the Elf meets a Smurf). With 60,000 people there I may be a bit hard to find, but if we do cross paths - please introduce yourself and - if you're game - join me in a meet & tweet (see my first BGDF blog post for more on that).
I look forward to getting to know all of you through the forum. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and I'll see you at Gen Con and at the table.
