I first attempted to modify Chess by adding the element of chance to it in the form of drawn cards. This experiment was a complete disaster. Chess is too perfect to be mettled with. I liked the idea of a strategy game balance by chance, but decided that I would have to create a whole new game. Using my chess board as a playing platform I hand drew a deck of cards and molded playing pieces out of clay. I played everyone I could for the next six months slowly crafting a set of rules that would balance skill and luck. I called my game Capere. That's Latin for Capture, which is one of the plays of my game. David Jones, a friend and graphic artist designed the board, cards and box. I searched for the cheapest method of producing it and put the games together at home. David and I have spent the last two years marketing Capere at ComicCons around California. At Strategicon, Playford Games became interested in my came and with their help, I have updated it to include a kind of RPG feel to it. Our Kickstarter to finance the new edition is coming up. I have other games in mind and thought it might be interesting and productive to communicate with other game designers.
Hello From a Strategic Board Game designer
Welcome to the Forum,
It is always good to see designers join up and start sharing and participating in this wonderful community. No matter how much I try to give back to it, I get back even more.
For sure as you put it, communicating with other designers is both interesting and productive.
Looking forward to hearing more about Capere 2.0 and the other game designs you have in mind.

Welcome to the forum!
Your line about meddling with chess reminded me of "For the Crown."

Have you played it? It meddles with chess in some interesting ways.
I didn't see any links but when you get a chance put up some info on the game, or your Kickstarter preview page or whatever. The designers here are friendly and willing to give encouraging advice!

I always forget stuff like adding links to my postings. I'm in the process of redesigning my webpage: caperethegame.com I'm on Gameboardgeek and my board game producer is Playford Games. I can also be found on facebook under Capere.
