The game that I am creating has a score board that is larger than the game board. This is for thematic reasons, but I was wondering if anyone has come across hang-ups with large score boards and how they inhibit or benefit games?
My game is Solar System-based, and each player's score is tracked separately in one of the 1/8th-circle sections of the solar system diagram, with 50 points available to players before they have to start at the beginning again (a la Entdecker).
I've considered making the scoreboard a circular track that snakes into the center (see: Suburbia), but the scoreboard doubles as a turn order visualizer, and players place their pieces on a turn order track (a 1/16th of the circle, separated from the scoring zones) in a method that is visually and mechanically reminiscent of 5 Tribes and Alchemists, so I can't really cut that down too much because they represent orbiting planets.
Any suggestions? I could, I suppose, layer the orbiting planets so they zig-zag from the Sun, out, and cut the space down 1/3 that way, but the playing board is still not very large in relation to it and I am having trouble visualizing where the score board could go with larger player groups (the game plays 2-8) without being in the way.
Thanks for the time and input!
