Hello everyone,
My name is Gary Boyd, I came across this forum looking for a BBS that was specifically for game designers. I'm looking for a community to discuss game design with. I love BGG but as with any very large BBS it's easy to get lost in the shuffle there. I hope to make some friends in the design community here. I am currently in development of my first to be published game. I've designed a few others that really didn't make it out of our family play testing but this one seems to fill our family fun quotient and I think others would enjoy it as well.
So, a little about me. I have Young Onset Parkinson's Disease, diagnosed 2 years ago at the ripe old age of 30. I don't let it slow me down too much. There are some things I really want to do in life and making games is one of them. If anything YOPD has pushed me to chase my dreams. I don't plan on making a huge amount of money (this is the board gaming market after all), but I would love to have someone from another country (I had initially typed county by mistake, perhaps we can start there) enjoy my games :)
The game I'm working on right now is called Code Mage: Source & Sorcery. It's a CCG which utilizes a game board and miniatures in a tactical combat situation. What I set out to do was make a gateway game for CCG gamers to transition into wargaming. We have 3 children and while the middle child is game for Warmachine against Dad, the other two just aren't ready for something that involved. I wanted to strip some of the things that many people would consider tedious from the scenario, take it down to it's most basic form (single combat), and give people a game they could really immerse themselves in.
We have our first play testing event planned here in Evansville, Indiana for January 25th. I'm really looking forward to getting some feedback from other people. I'm keen to hear what people think of the game. The CCG aspect of the game is almost certainly in some need of balance testing so I hope to see some of that come out of the event as well.
This is probably a bit lengthy for an introduction, but I'm looking forward to chatting with some of you and learning about your projects as well.
Thanks for reading,
Gary Boyd
