Another thing you could add to the FAQ is how to format journal entry's. (I.E.'' = bold, and so on)

As this took me about 2 months, and a lot of questions to learn how to format a journal.

Just some suggestions,

Ok. I re-added the rank images and the topic images.

Custom avatars will need to be reuploaded. Sorry this can not be avoided.

-Darke

Also I realize the order of the username, rank, and avatar are a bit out of order. I will try to fix that when I get a chance.

I'm sure this is a new feature rather than a bug, but the "other members online" list to the left has vanished. It is possible that you;re in the middle of raplacing it with something else. If that's the case then ignore this post...

UPDATE: 10 seconds later and now it's back... Hmmm... And I'm not using a Mac or anything!

Clicking on the "Jump to" then "Go" doesn't seem to work for me (I'm using, um, Firefox, I think). It sends me to an almost blank page that says:

Module not found.

Yes you are correct. It is on the list of things to fix. Thanks for pointing that out though.

I have no idea what is causing this, but leaving my browser open to the bgdf forum page causes my browser to constantly reload the page. Over, and over, and over - I suspect it'll do it forever, because it's been doing it for a good half hour now (I wanted to test before I mentioned it).

Occasionally it'll come up and say "bgdf.com cannot be found."

I've never seen this on any other page.

I believe this is for the Online User List, is it not? Refreshes allow the list to be updated with the current users online. That's what I thought, anyway.

The signature field (under Profile) appears a bit short at 20 characters.

"I can't say much wit" [h 20 characters!]

Yes Peter is correct. The site as whole will reload forever for that very reason. It's just they way the Instant Messenger works.

I just noticed the vanishing online members box again. When I use the back arrow to return to the start page, the online members list is gone, but will return when I refresh the page. Not sure if anything can be done about it or if it's just the nature of the beast.

What browser are you using? Are you on dialup or broadband? Keep in mind, that when you use your browser's back button, you really aren't loading a page from the site, you're loading it from your browser's cache. Since the site messenger is dynamic, it might fail to load even the old users online from the cache. On Mozilla it works fine for me. Anyone else having issues with it/

I'm ashamed to say it, but I use Internet Explorer... Since I'm "not exactly at home" I use what's available (though I have been using Safari on the Mac more and more). I'm on a LAN connection for access.

The weird thing is that usually it does reappear, but not always. I'll chalk it up to IE quirkiness until I see it happen while using Safari.

So, it's a feature? Cool. I just figured that would be hell on your bandwidth; wouldn't it be easier to allow people to just hit refresh if the want to check if someone is on?

Well, it's not just a 'Who is Online' feature. It's also an instant messenger. Everytime it refreshes it's checking to see whether it needs to transmit an instant message.

Was the change to limit .sigs to 20 characters an intentional one or an artifact of moving to the new site? My .sig used to be much longer (24 characters, to be exact), but when I went to update a different part of my profile, it limited the .sig to 20 characters.

I've noticed a few things about posting lately. First, it seems to take a lot longer then usual. I thought nothing of it at first, but it's been accross the board, from different computers and at different times of day with both lots and few users present.

Also, I've noticed some double posts popping up.

I don't know why the posting would go slowly, but my guess is that it is and that's causeing people to hit submit twice maybe, causeing double posts?

Oh, and another thing noone's mentioned about the IM... it is structured wierd- it says who the IM is from, then below that in another line it says "From:" Nothing unbearable, hardly even perceptible really, just a bug I noticed.

I hope I'm not just being stupid, but there's a site feature I can't make work. When I post a reply (like now) or at any other time I'm entering message text, my options say "Smilies are OFF". And indeed, they don't work if I try to use them. But I have them turned on in my user profile; in the profile-editing page it shows that I want them turned on.

Is there any way I can get smilies to work for me? Thanks for any help...

I've disabled smilies sitewide because for some reason the site was improperly parsing parenthetical quotes as smilies. Sorry.. Not to mention for some reason some of the smilie shortcuts are corrupt.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

I'm not sorry you have the smilies off. I think they get overused on a lot of forums. Especially the animated ones- what an eyesore!

I think the site is better for not having Emoticons everywhere.

When editing an earlier post, there's no visible indication of the timing of the edit...I'm not sure whether that's a bug or merely a feature of dubious merit, but I figured it'd be better to ask.

See?

[3/30/05 2:30 pm MST] Not only that, but Admins can edit other people's posts without anyone knowing!

[30-March-2005, 4:37pm CST] Testing Nando's comment about edit dates/times only being shown when there's a later post in the thread. (Nope -- doesn't work ;-p)

I'm pretty sure it only records the edit if there's already another post to the thread after the one you're editing.

Ditto on Seth's (sedjtroll's) input.

Bryk, you're an admin. Maybe you cheated? (This post has an edit notice. After Rick posted, I went back and added the boldness.)

It appears you are right Nando. But don't worry, in a few months we'll have a whole new set of problems to deal with and new bugs to find. *Grin*

Topic reply notification e-mail

Could the topic reply notification e-mail be given a from address, please? It does me no good without one since it gets consistently spam-filtered, and the only way to white-list it is by address.

I took the from address off because people would mark posts to be notified but they would have an invalid address in their profile which would cause *my* e-mail box to be filled with bounce messages. So sorry I had to remove it. Perhaps I will reinstate it with a fake from address.

The new chat room doesn't seem to work with the Mac Safari browser. The bottom frame (containing the text input field and the Send, Help, and Exit buttons) is blank. I can watch the conversation, but I can't enter text, and the only way to exit is to close the window, at which point I get yelled at for not using the Exit button. ;-)

This isn't killer for me. Firefox on the Mac works just fine, and I can use that to browse the BGDF. But I thought you should know. If I can help debug the problem, let me know.

Just curious Rick, were you able to access the old chat on Safari?

Yes, no serious problems with the old chat. Sometimes it wouldn't autoscroll, otherwise fine.
