I think a lot of serious designers who sign up get overwhelmed by the total number of posts that are specific to game ideas that they don't really care about.

I think that's a very good goal. As much as I'd like to, I don't have time to be really involved in discussing theme/overall game ideas, e.g. I haven't participated at all in the GDW even though I really want to. I spend some amount of time opening threads in the Design forum, seeing that they're these huge discussions of some game, and closing them done. I can't just skip the Design section entirely though (e.g., in favor of the publication forum, where I can contribute more within my time constraints) because I have seen some neat discussions about particular mechanics in there. I think that was the original goal of that section, so keeping things on track more and keeping the forum "cleaner" would be helpful.

Part of that is just doing what Darke did recently for the Design section, putting a sticky in every forum that outlines its purposes.

On another note, the GDW is also really well structured; I like the element of you can't put a game in unless you've been helping out.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the new setup and wish I could put time toward helping out. Maybe in the future when I'm a billionaire game designer known by name in homes worldwide :)

Jkopena,

You've pretty much summed up why I want to move to the wiki format. You represent our target audience. If we can cut down on the number of subjective posts, the number of frequently asked questions, and raise post quality, then I believe it will benefit people like yourself, thereby encouraging more postings from those folks, and as a result, further increasing content quality.

Hi,

Great, I can't wait for this to happen. Though with my luck it won't be until I get in the Navy :( Of course after Boot Camp I'll be able to jump right back in. So keep up the good work!

Live long and prosper, Qundar out.
