I got my hand recently, illegally, on a old software called "Paint Shop Pro 7". The big thing I wanted to try is to draw vectorial graphics to see if I am better at drawing theses. I made a test and I decided to draw a sword. Here are the results:
This is the Sword shapes draw as vectorial graphics without effects on the shapes.
This is the same sword with some 3D effects and textures applied on the same shapes.
What do you think? It's not perfect but I think it is acceptable considering that the objective is to use it in board game.
Else I might try to draw vectorial graphics has lines and make it look like a hand drawing. I might also try to make anime style faces.
