How to get a jigsaw published?

Hello,

I am not sure whether this is really the place to be asking this, so please bare with me if I'm wrong.

I have a series of artwork that I am trying to get published as jigsaw puzzles. I have contacted a few companies, one of which was very helpful. But I fear I may be going about it in the wrong way.

I am new to this area and any help on where or how to start would be very welcome.

Thankyou Kindly,
Naiee.

How to get a jigsaw published?

just last night i happened to be working on my game in a bar.... writing up some playtest cards and such... and this guy asked me what i was doing..

turns out he was in town on business talking to finnegan's toy store.. he works at buffalo games and we had a very good conversation about the marketing and selling of games and puzzles, submissions and just about games in general.

anyway, check out their website maybe... they seem to focus on jigsaw puzzles and if talking to this guy was any indication they seem like a friendly and fair company to have dealings with.

Jigsaw puzzle companies

Great American Puzzle Factory is another good company to approach. Very nice people there.

Depending on the picture theme(s) you have, I might be able to recommend other companies to approach. For the few dealings I've had, it is the same as game submissions; a non-disclosure if they require it, and good quality prints of your artwork. That's it.

thanks kmcre8f

Thankyou,

That is what I have also found, the one place I have submitted my work to asked for a non-dislosure and prints.

My work is surrealist, do you think that this will effect who would be interested ?

I'll check out the company you suggested, but I'm in australia, will they deal with me?

Thankyou again,
Naiee.

Yes, they should not have a problem with you being in Australia.

However, I think your artwork will decrease the number of companies that will look at your stuff. There are companies that do famous paintings - so if you had Salvador Dali paintings that would be to your advantage. And if you a fan base, such as Thomas Kinkade or Georgia O'Keefe, you might do okay. If your surrealism has any adult themes, nudity, or latent sexual imagery, this too could reduce your chances. Without a promotable angle or hook, then it just comes down to the imagery, which the majority seems to be pretty scenics or cute animals.

Good luck, concentrate on companies that have artsy puzzles. Companies in the U.S. that I can think of off the top of my head is Battleroad Press, MasterPieces, Ceaco, Warren Industries (a division of RoseArt) which has the Kodak license. Also consider Falcon (out of UK I think), FX Schmid (Germany), and Educa (?).

thanks again

I feared that might be the case.

I guess I'm facing an uphill battle :) I'll try some more of your suggested companies, thankyou for all those by the way.

This is what annoys me about jigsaw puzzles, I used to like them, but they're all basically the same, either nature scenes or animals. For anything else it seems like you have to go with the higher end companies and pay $30 or more. With the senics going for 10% of that price, it hardly seems worth it; I'd rather buy another board game :). Without having seen Naiee's artwork, I'm already sure I'd rather buy it than any of the "typical" puzzles out there.

Cool :)

I appreciate the vote of confidence Jason :D

If anything can be said about my work it is that it's different. But different isn't easy to sell :( , to reputable companies at least.

But I'm going to keep trying, maybe if there is a few more people like you out there I'll have a fighting chance... one day

The suggestions I've received from people here have been encouaging and I'm following up on the companies mentioned.

So here's to hoping.......
