To have a board or NOT?

Yes

Hi all
My dilemma is whether to have a board or not for a party game or just have cards?
I do have a board where first team/player to reach win square win the game.
There is some strategy using teleport chips where you can jump ahead of the winning team if you win the round.
However if the team still have one teleport chip left then it might not be so good as they might leap in front of you and win the game.

(Thats genius mate)

Or should I just have cards to keep costs down?

Anyway that is my dilemma

Few questions for you...

What does the board *add* to the game?
Does it make it more fun?
Would the game be broken without the board?

From what you have stated, I assume not having a board will result in a minor, if any, impact to gameplay. I assume this because you suggest that you can use just cards tp play your game. But I worry about what else your game might *lose* by removing the board. So what else does you board currently do for the game? And will the loss of these board related options *hurt* the gameplay (such as the teleport option you stated)?

Strategy

Hmm
I guess it adds strategy like I/we are brainier than you.
Yes you can just use cards and that element above is still there like first to guess the round get points. First people to reach to the agreed points win the game.
Or make something novel like receive something when you win a game and when you have accumulated so many you win. This limits number of players of course.

But does your board offer anything besides tracking of the players current score (or position)?

Do the squares on the board offer any other game related mechanics or actions?

If the board is nothing more than a score tracker, then it does not offer enough value to the game. So I would not use it and save on game production costs.

But as an example, if the board contained squares that contained additional *actions* that say force a team to anwser two questions to move forward this turn, maybe a double my points this turn for a correct anwser or some such elelment. The board might be worth keeping. But I dont see this being your case from what you have stated.

I guess you need to decide if the board means enough to keep in your game based on the value add it gives to you game.

No

The board only offers tracking and the novelty strategy thing of the teleport chips.

Looking on boardgames.com there are a lot of games with boards.
I am thinking it could be disadvantage with the teleport chips because with the teams play a team could let the other team do a lot of work then use a teleport chip to jump ahead however they do need to win the round and also the other team still might have their second teleport chip as two teleport chips are given to each team or player per game.
But i NEED some feedback if the teleport idea is good?
Because if it is not then no need for a board.
Have some Einstein vouchers or something that each team has to collect.

Do you currently have any restrictions on when and how the teleport chip can be used by a team? You stated a team may use it at the end of a winning round, but is that all there is to it?

If each team gets two chips and can just use them when they win the round, that might be so-so. As you stated they can just let other teams do the work and teleport.

But if you were to attach the concept of making the team using a teleport chip answer X questions in Y seconds it might add fun twist. If they succeed, they teleport, if they fail the teleport fails and they lose that teleport chip.

Or maybe you allow the team that won the round the option to use their teleport chip, and they teleport the number of spaces equal to the number of correct answer they get in the Y seconds.

AhhAhh rght

Ahh right
I am trying to keep it simple though.
So the team or player answering the question first and have played a teleport chip before the round started then jump ahead of the other leading team.
Only clue teams have by the card reader is that they state the answer is animal object or thing. So players then decide if they will play a teleport chip or not.

No board. You don't need it. If you want to use the teleport, just keep track of points and use it to give the user one point more than whoever is currently in the lead.

OK

I think your right now guys

However instead of points it might be more fun to have something novel to make points to win the game like I mentioned earlier about Einstein vouchers.
Maybe you can think of somethig better?
Im going to test again

Cheers
