The game revolves around Bidding on certain things that are worth amount of points. At the end of the game the person with the most points wins. This is pretty straight forward but It does seem to be that fun. Any ideas?
I need a mechanic for an Auction/Bidding game
First i recommend you to see on

with the game mechanics bidding their is many game who has this mechanism on the market.
But if you give more information about your idea maybe i can help you more :)
Maybe what you can bid are "political action cards" that are worth some point depending of the states.
For exemple some states can be really affected by the card "get interviewed in local TV show", some by "kissing baby on TV", some by the "prepare super for to the poor" card.
The cards would be split in different aspect a president should have"Power", "Wisdom", "Ampathy"... And states would like more cards of certain aspects.
These card if well placed on specific states are worth different amout of point, this will help the theme and add some hand management aspect.
That's just an idea :)
This is just some brainstorming here, but how about this...
Rather thn deal random states to bid on, have all the states available, have the candidates bid on which state(s) to campaign in (have a debate in, etc) each round, and then have something else that determines who's winning a state. Like each state would have some criteria that it's looking for (either standard or maybe random or semi-random). During the campaigning portion of the game (after you bid on which states to campaign in each round) players do things, spend money, play cards, etc to try and win over the states in question.
So based on what you have in hand at the beginning of a round you might be better prepared to win over a certain state or states, so you bid to campaign in those. Then you attempt to win those states or get them closer to your side. Next round you have different stuff, and the states from the previous round are leaning toward one player or another, so you bid again... eventually you will need to campaign and win in several states to get the majority of the electoral votes.
What do you think?

Do you think that would be a long game?
If you use the united states maybe it would be long, but you can use whatever country you like or invent one with less states :)
I did use that it didnt really help.
My idea is to have a political bidding game. Players bid on states each turn to win the election. States are worth the amount of electorial votes they are worth in real life.
Every turn 3 states are turned over. Player 1 choses which state to bid on. Then an event card is turned over to declare the rules of the bidding.
Some ideas I had were that each person is dealt a random candidate in the begining.
Their is a deck of cards that people can buy from to affect the bidding. Any ideas?
