Hey everyone, I am working on my 2nd game, and I was wondering if any of you guys have some ideas.

I'm hoping to make a game with a "Prince of Persia" or "Arabian Nights" themed attached to it and I was wondering if you guys have an ideas i could perhaps use for the game.

Thanks in Advance
-Justin

P.S - I was thinking about doing a city-building game with this theme attached. But not many ideas came out of the old noggin.

I'd go right to the source, and read "A Thousand and One Arabian Nights". Also, try googling "Persian Folklore". This is a vein that is very rich, and a person could spend a lifetime making games with themes from these sources. Good luck!

Thanks Hedge,

I did some reading on a bunch of different sites, and I got some info on Ancient Persia. I Have a few ideas. But I really can't think of how to turn it into a game.

So I was hoping you guys can help a bit. Anything help will be greatly appreciated.

Zoroaster - Was the Great Prophet of Persia. He preached that all men must choose for themselves between good and evil.

The World - Was thought to be as round and flat. Like a plate. All was peaceful until Evil came into the world, causing Mountians to rise.

Mount Tera - Here stands the Chinvat bridge. All souls pass this bridge at death on their journey to heaven or hell.

The Immortals - The army of Persia

The Bull - Persia's most respected animal

I Also found a map of Persia, that divides it into what ruler conquered it.

Thanks Again,
-Justin

You might have it right there -- that alone would make a terrific game with limitless possibilities exploring this and the consequences between various choices (although you'd start to tread on video games like Black and White).

Justin, keep in mind that Ancient Persian setting is different from the Persian setting you see in "Prince of Persia".

Ancient Persia refers to the guys who, among a lot of other things, fought the ancient Greeks, around 500 BC. The Persia from "Prince of Persia" refers to the Arabic Persia of around 800 AD.

Not that there is anything wrong with either setting, just make sure you don't confuse them :)

Ya I know about the different times. Thanks for worrying though ;)

Ya I started to think about something about Good & Evil. Here's what I got:

Game Each person would travel around a town, when they come up to a person in need, you flip a card; the card may say something like, "An old man wants to know if you can watch his cattle for a second, you say yes."
Choices Good: Watch his cattle; Bad: Kill all his cattle, and run away.
Whatever coice you choose, you would either move your guy on a track towards good or evil.
Problem But, I thought "Why would there be good and bad choices?" (I.E. In a video game the choices add to different end-game scenario's.)

Whew, that was a long one.

The problem I see with that game you mentioned right there, is why would anybody want to choose one side or the other? There has to be an incentive (most likely refering to winning the game). What I propose is an alteration of an idea I had before, you use that track towards good and evil. You also have all players get turns at using the person who is being good or evil, so all players can influence movement along said track. In addition to this each player will have hidden objective cards pertaining either to a certain good/evil level, or certain tasks. When a hidden objective card is accomplished (ie certain level of good or evil) a new goal card is drawn to replace it. I am hesitant in talking about this mechanic because I like it so much, and want to make a game around it, but this sounds like the sort of game to go with it, plus I am unsure of how to implement the mechanic.

One game that you may want to look at, if you haven't yet, is "Tales of the Arabian Nights", which is an out of print game that is pretty well regarded. It has the "choose your own adventure" feel that you seem to be expressing here.
