A good way to get help is to ask for specific question or general question oriented in a certain direction. As you can see, there is a lot of question about many thing related to games which are discussed on this forum. But just saying that you need help is not enough.
We don't mind helping you but give us the information to do it properly.
Hi,
You could also base your game on what your group likes most in games, in regards of theme and mechanics. What games are popular in your group and why, and then try making a hybrid.

o ok thanks for the help.. that gave me some good ideas
You could also discuss with your group about the boardgamegeek advanced search to find ideas about themes and mechanics.

Generally I start creating a game one of three ways...
It's Broke, Fix It
I see a problem with a game I'm playing, or a variant that would be interesting, ar a change that would dramatically affect gameplay. So I make a "fix" and see how it goes.
Substance Before Style
I have a clever mechanic or focus of gameplay in mind (usually developed from working on another game where it doesn't quite fit), and I build a game around it. Sometimes this results in a theme-free game, otherwise known as "abstract strategy".
Style Before Substance
I want to do a game about, say, Janitors. (this is actually true, don't ask why, I just think it would be neat.) So I build a game around THAT.
As far as ideas go, ANYTHING can work as a game theme. Monopoly is about real estate, and kids around the world love playing it... what kid loves real estate?

go on what you know.
what movies you like
games you like
books you like
ask your friends, relatives or people who never talked to before.
combine your ideas or suggestions with the details you know.
from war movies, to sci-fiction books etc. the possibilities are endless

I know many may not condone this way of going about it, but if you are simply making a game for yourself and friends:
Think of your favorite game, and if you coudl change one MAJOR part of gameplay, how would you change it?
As soon as you do that, it will completely destroy most of how the game works within itself.
Fix it, without changing that rule back.
It will be different. If its still almost the same exact game, do it again.
And again.
Now, understand, this is not even close to how I go about designing my own games, for that I just play a lot of games and think about what type of game I feel like playing, but for your situation, I think that method should work relatively well.
