I'm owner of a game manufacturing factory, Lijia Game Production to help publishers and/or friends with manufacturing board, card and miniatures games for over 30 years. I like children. When I played games with children, it will be very amazing good time that I can observe them, interact with their thoughts, train their character, and teach them some value, etc.
In my spare time and during the COVID-19 pandemic, when I played a kind of poker with my daughters,it occurred to me that if I adapted this gameplay into a tiles game with racks, the kids would enjoy it even more. So originally from this classic Chinese poke gameplay, and according to my ideas of "easy start, infinte variation each time, incredible fun", I changed this poker gameplay into a number tiles game with racks and with simple new mechnics. I named this new game as Versatile Monkey.
The game goal is that each player try to get rid of all their tiles, and win scores. There are 40 number tiles, 4 bomb tiles, 2 versatile monkey tiles, 3 tiles racks, 2 dices, 45 chips as the game parts. All tiles should be discarded following the number sequence rule and tiles quantity rule, except Bomb tiles(it must obey tiles quantity rules, but it can break number sequence rule) and Melds(it can break both number sequence rule and tiles quantity rule).
When I played Versatile Monkey with family members, all kids, teens, all parents liked playing them and felt fun.
My question is, in today's internet society, especially AI society in the futrue, will people and family still love the physical number tiles game?
Please advise, so I can conside if I should take this game innovation to Essen Spiel which Lijia Game Production will yearly attend to exhibit their OEM manufacturing service.
I'd also like to face to face meet you when Essen Spiel 2023 if you want to make friends with me.
Thank you!
Do kids and their parents still like numbered tiles game with scores getting mechnics?
Hello @Julia ... So I think Board & Card Games depends greatly on most children and their Families. If the Family has a Poker Card game every 2nd week or a get together to play Board Games once or twice a month ... Those children will be exposed to modern Board & Card Games and the children may be influenced by these "good times" so-to-speak.
I think for a re-skin of a Poker Game... You could create a CUSTOM "Monkey" deck with art on each suit and maybe changes the suits. Like one suit could be Bananas, another could be Barrels, another could be Gems and the last suit could be Tree Leaves (for example).
Yellow, Brown, Blue and Green colors (again for example). Your 4 Bomb cards could be drawn as "exploding Bomg with a lit fuse..." I can picture that and it would be very cool. The two (2) Monkey cards (are self-explanatory)...
So maybe if you go to Essen Spiel 2023 ... IDK if they have artists there or you have Comic Cons in your area of residence... But the idea would be to get the ART DONE before Essen Spiel 2023. Everyone will LOVE playing a CUSTOM DECK of cards as opposed to standard deck. Know what I mean???
It's nice to hear that you have the design-bug too... Not only manufacturing. Designing is great and it helps create new games with innovative mechanics and twist to your standard game of Poker and Melds.
Like I said, your next STEP would be the SKIN the Deck with CUSTOM SUITS and ARTWORK to make the game different than any other Poker Deck out there...
Cheers and welcome back to BGDF.com!
P.S.: I'm a Canadian (born and grew up in Canada)! We don't get many Chinese members (at least not since I took over back in 2018)... You are the first that I know of (and I'm pretty aware of most members involved in discussions online).
I see that you a further along with your game... You've got a LOGO and a Mascot (the monkey), colored Tiles (for the numbers) and the BOMB too (exactly like I pictured it...) I'm sure people at Essen will enjoy playing the game in it's Tile form. And so it looks like you have ART and are ready to demo it to the World...
I guess your NEXT step would be to ADD a "Board Game Geek" Page for the game. (https://www.boardgamegeek.com) to advertise that game exists and ensure that nobody copies the name too...
There are about a dozen "Monkey" Games... But none "Versatile Monkey"! So you are good to go on BGG... IF you go to Essen ... Make sure you have created your BGG page for your game. This way people can google it and find the BGG page.
Cheers!
And place it on the Table with a QR Code... This will allow people to use their Smartphone and scan the QR Code to link to the website or the BGG page for the game. I've gone to our Comic Con in Montreal and instead of giving Business Cards away ... You can take pictures or scan the QR Code instead and this is more Ecologically Neutral since you are not wasting time or money on business cards that usually get thrown in the garbage or recycling.
By having ONE (1) Business Card on the TABLE with a QR Code ... People at Essen can use their cellphones to take a picture or scan it (if it has a QR Code).
Hope things go well for Ningbo Lijia Industries at Essen... Sincerely.
Here is the LINK to submit a GAME on BGG:
https://boardgamegeek.com/item/create/boardgame
This Link/URL has at the very top of the page links to adding a NEW Designer, Artist or Game Company to BGG. You'll want to add yourself as the Designer and the Artist (if not already in the People database) and maybe add your Company if you are not already present (or if it is different than Ningbo Lijia Industries, Ltd.) You can credit Self-Published game or via your company too...
If you have questions or need help, please ask in this thread by adding a comment and sharing with us your issue or troubles and I will do the best that I can possibly do to help you get your game properly configured on BGG.
All the best of luck with your Monkey Tile Game... TBH it sounds like it is a LOT of FUN!
Sincerely.
Sorry for making the incorrect assessment that it was you (Tony) and not her (Julia).
That's why I think in the West (Americas) people don't allow their children to use Smartphones. Maybe at the age of 12+ years MAYBE... But not young kids like 8 or 9 ... Who really need to LEARN "strategy" it's one of the educational goals of the 9-Year olds education.
Like I said in the West, it depends on the Families. But many would contend that games like Sorry!, Monopoly, Game of Life, Clue, Snakes & Lattes, Candyland, Scrabble, Pictionary, Win/Lose or Draw, Guess Who, etc. The games sold by Hasbro, Parker Brothers, Mattel and co. do occupy the children's Toy Stores and do SELL well.
But it's the older kids of 12+ who need to be shown Modern Games like Catan, Roll for the Galaxy, SmallWorld, Splendor, Ticket-to-Ride, Agricola, Betrayal House on the Hill, Scythe, etc. And then once they PLAY, many will get the board & card game "bug".
Noble goals for sure. I'm deeply saddened that Chinese Children only want to watch shorts (Videos) and not learn some gameplay and how to "strategize". It is VERY important to child development (as I said before).
No problem... Enjoy the stay. Hope that you bring some copies of your Game to Essen and show it off. I'm sure you will FIND players for the game. And if you want to... You may be able to sell some copies for sure. But even if it is just a question of "exposure", I'm sure you'll get plenty of people who will want to just watch people PLAY it... And see what the strategy is in the game.
Cheers and kudos to you for your novel game!
Sure I can help... But there is some SETUP to be done first.
Visit the following the LINK to submit a GAME on BGG:
https://boardgamegeek.com/item/create/boardgame
You will see AT the very TOP two items of importance:
1: "Add new designers/artists/other people to the database."
2: "Add new publishers/companies to the database."
So you will have to create the Designer Profile and Artist Profiles FIRST (1st).
NEXT you will need to add your Publishing company or use "Self-Published" if you have none or do not want to share the name of the Publisher.
Once you add those, you back the the Link/URL above and fill in all the information including the Designer, Artist(s) and Publisher (or Self-Published)
It's pretty simple and straightforward...
Best of success...
Note #1: It MAY take a few days to a week for approval. At the TOP of the Link/URL I gave you is another LINK that says: "Check our game submission queue (and the database) so you don't submit a game we already have." This will allow you to MONITOR IF YOUR game is still pending or approved. You'll get an e-mail if is is APPROVED or NOT. If NOT, the Admin will tell you what is missing.
Hi @questccg, Julia Wang is my wife who is mainly responsible for organization of game manufacturing in my factory. I'm Tony, and found many kids around me in China didn't like playing poker card, also most of board games. All people, including children and especially young kids, always watch short videos and stream videos on their smart phones all day all time no matter where they are. So I want to modify one kind of poker gameplay with ideas of much more easy starting but infinite variation and fun each time. I want to use personalized racks for kids to place their tiles, I want to use chips for them to count their scores so kids will gain a sense of achievement, I want to introduce the Monkey King in Journey to the West(a Chinese classic famous story) as the theme of game, etc.
Thank you @questccg, your suggestion is very helpful. Let's share rich ideas and promote each other in this time-honored forum.
