Looking to get feedback on the first draft of my rules

Hey there fellow designers!

I'm hoping to get some feedback on this first iteration of my rules book.

The game is called King's Garden. Players will move workers around a field, collection flower and plots of land in order to build a garden for the king. It combines dice drafting, set collecting, and tableau building. It was heavily inspired by both Five Tribes and Alhambra.

You can find the rules here - https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B28y7fEY-b1GMjByOHlJeHBYUWc/view?usp=sh...

Any advice, critiques, or feedback is appreciated!

Congrats on finishing your

Congrats on finishing your rule book I am also working on one myself so I know how hard it is to create one in regards to your rule book I have the following advice.

Include pictures of your components it's much easier to understand a game when you have visual aids I am not sure how you create your components but it f you do so digitally just take some screenshots and crop he pictures.

Insteand of coins put gold this way your can say give each player 30 gold at the start of the game.

I would drop the dice drafting mechanic I get it's for movement but I can see this mechanic frustrating players on a lower turn order. You could easily cut down on components and down time and just have 2d6 used and passed around when a players turn is over.

That's all the feedback I have for now hope i helps.

Pictures are definitely on

Pictures are definitely on the way. I'm putting everything together in tabletop simulator, and then I'll put in screenshots.

I used coins instead of just saying gold to make sure players weren't trying to take 30 1 value coins, or 3 10 coins. I suppose it doesn't matter too much, because they could always make change if they need to.

Dice are not all that expensive, and the drafting is meant to be used as a luck mitigating mechanic. Also, I don't think it hurts players who are low in the turn order too bad. The last player gets to draft two dice at once, and then the draft order goes in reverse turn order, similar to initial settlement placement in Catan.

I love it!

Looks like a really fun game. I found the rules to be quite clear and it will only be enhanced by some graphics.

Personally I don't mind the dice drafting mechanic and I really like the idea of getting to go twice if you can manage to get two dice of the same number.

I agree on the pictures. You

I agree on the pictures. You need some.

I went the opposite way on the drafting. I like that, but I think that the bidding is unnecessary. Just have the right of first draft move around the board. I'm not convinced that first position is all that great, anyway -- later positions are in better shape to get doubles. Double 2s is better than 6 & 1.

If you have an unprotected man, he can get knocked off, but then he can't come in if there is an unprotected man on each of the corners. I don't see why coming in doesn't knock off the unprotected man who was left on the corner.

I actually initially had the same thought. It's probably the mechanic I am least attached to. I only added it to give another layer of 'interesting decisions' for the players. I am going to be play testing with and without it, and see which one seems better.

You can come back in if there is only one meeple on a corner. You are only blocked from coming back in if there are two meeples of the same color on a corner. Also, you can only knock another meeple off by getting two of your workers to their spot.

Nice

Seems like a nice game. Some comments:

- I agree that the bidding should be dropped. Stalls the game with no great effect.

- The combination of the dice mechanic with the movement mechanic is quite nice, I really liked it.

- I think it would make sense to add 1-2 introductory paragraphs stating (and explaining) the main concepts of the game. Everything falls into place in the second reading, but in the first reading you often encounter unexplained terms. Perhaps the lack of drawings contributed in this respect. A careful reader will have no problems understanding the game, but I'm not a careful reader (and most gamers are not either). :-)

Nice try though.
