Badlands are the equivalent to Magic's "Land cards". They are played on your Journey's timeline next to "Bastions" and "Lairs".

What are "Badlands"?

They are "neutral" LOCATIONS in one's Journey.

More specifically they are: Plains, Forests, Mountains, Islands, and Swamps.

Just like in Magic (as mentioned).

What I am trying to figure out is WHAT is on the OTHER SIDE of "Badlands" cards?!

Anyone have any ideas???

Cheers.

What do you think of "Virtues"

I have come up with the idea of "Virtues". What they are is points that allow you to use magical rewards - you must unlock sufficient "Virtues" to use the special ability of a Treasure or use a magical item like a "Healing Potion", etc.

"Virtues" are NOT LOST... You can accumulate them during your Epic Journey and they will stay with you for the duration of a game.

Please feel free to comment/offer feedback. Do you like this idea???

Thank you.

Update: I call the opposite side of the "Badland" cards = "Darkwell"...

I am thinking that you have TWO (2) types of "Virtues": WHITE and DARK... To be able to switch sides, you may use one (1) of your "Action Points" (APs) to flip/invert the card.

The "White-Kind" allows you to use abilities and items that are added to your timeline by YOU. The "Dark-Kind" allow you to use those added by your opponent. A Black vs. White kind of synergy.

I dimly know what the land

I dimly know what the land cards do, but I don't know anything about what the other side is used for in magic. Could you explain the significance of the other side? Like when it's used?

In Magic, the other side is NOT used. It's just a "cardback"...

But in my game ("Quest AC v2") the remaining other cards are dual-sided. So it makes only sense that the "Badlands" cards ALSO be "dual-sided" too.

Like "Bastions"/"Heroes" are one pair of dual-sided cards. And the mechanic of earning income is balanced with the presence of Heroes. You must choose, either your "Bastion" produces INCOME or a HERO.

"Lairs/Monsters" are another pairing. You reveal the Monster only when the rest of the lair is "resolved". And at that time you have a Epic Battle for your journey!

Another type of card is "Events". One side is an "Encounter", the other side is the "Reward". These cards are pretty self-explanatory.

So it makes only sense that "Badlands" have ANOTHER SIDE to them. And as I am thinking that "Badlands" generate White Virtue and "Darkwells" generate Dark Virtue...

Something like that...
