Looking for tips on simplifying the way the rules are expressed. My game lots of variables. I was thinking of grouping key words in a tree-like schematic.

What do you folks think?

Unless the rules are extremely simple I set them with an overview first then the details of each.

Game turn progrssion

  1. Letting the cats out of the bag
  2. Players turns (Three of the following actions in any combination)
    a. Pick up cat
    b. Swing cat
    c. Release cat
  3. Score bonus pts
  4. Cat revenge
    a. Pick target
    b. Determine damage
  5. Advance turn marker and check for winner

Letting the cats out of the bag

Starting to the left and continuing clockwise from the last to player to play each player will pick a cat from the Cat bag and place it at least two spaces away from their pawn or any other cat on the board. This will continue until there are no more ….

Wow, that's a great list. I'm a complete newb to board game design (this is my first post, actually), and I had no idea that there was such a structured progression of how the rules should be presented in board games. Very interesting stuff.

Thanks for sharing. I think I tend to follow that general format, too -- it just makes sense.
