Hi all,

Okay so my question is rather simple: What term or word would you use to represent a place???

So examples of "A Place" cards could be (but are not limited to):

  • A Village
  • A City
  • A Castle
  • A Keep
  • A Tower
  • A Dungeon
  • A Graveyard
  • etc.

A "Dwelling" doesn't sound right... It implies an inhabitant. My "Places" could be locations of a *Treasure*.

So, for example, "Ash Grave" is a Graveyard in which I could find the "Firesword". I need to figure out what to call "Ash Grave"!

I have been *using* the word "ORIGIN" but that too I don't like... I was thinking WHERE a person or item comes from (like it's source)...

Location cards

I am thinking maybe something less *direct*. For example Magic:the Gathering uses "Land cards"...

So maybe something more *imaginative* that could mean a "Location". And it would be a type of cards...

"Location cards" sounds not too bad... But as I stated, I wanted something more *imaginative*?!

particular theme you were after?

I like this question, because I have the same issue with finding a single (appropriate) word for 'no longer in play'

Here are my thoughts for yours:

Domain
Haunt
Habitat
Source
Home
Spring
Root
Realm
Territory
Region
Jurisdiction
District
Den
Lair

Suggestions

I would suggest using Area, Site, or Locale.

In my opinion, I would choose locale. It seems to fit with your medieval theme.

Realm cards sound cool too

In my Sci-Fi game I use the term "Recycle" or "Recycle Pile". In Fantasy-based games, I believe most refer it to the "Graveyard"... So one is for Sci-Fi and the other is for Fantasy.

As for my *own* dilemma, so far "Location cards" seems the most appropriate.

But I have to admit, your "Realm" term - is very interesting ("Realm cards"). So far that's the best ALTERNATE to "Location cards" .

The best *imaginative* version would be "Realm cards".

Verbish

I'd think towards a word describing the action rather than the content. Not sure the mechanic of your interaction or the overall feel, but along these lines:
Explore
Delving
Travel
Journey
Expedition
Excursion
Jaunt

I think that approach gets something with a bit more energy.

I like pilgrim's suggestion "Domain".
