First off, Merry Christmas.
Secondly, I've been working on a new game between work on my current project. The current one is pretty much finished as far as mechanics go, and I'm trying to figure out how to set up a blog-spot for it temporarily.
This new project I'm working on is a lighter game (both in theme and in length) with similar mechanics as the first. It takes place in a neighborhood where some kids are having a skirmish with various water-guns and tools. I got the inspiration to make it after watching someone play Zombies ate my Neighbors for a bit; the fast paced nature of the game was what most appealed to me and I tried to emulate that in my game.
I don't have a name for it just yet, but I'm in the process of making a rulebook to show for feedback. Right now I have plans for two game modes: A normal pvp, and a Mission based mode with Ai enemies. For the time being I'm focusing on the pvp aspect to get the mechanics ironed out in play tests. Players control one or multiple characters depending on the mode, each with their own unique abilities, stats, and starting weapons. In a normal versus game they'd move around the board to get new items from “Found” spaces (colored red on the mockup) to get an edge over their enemies. Of course, the goal of this mode would be to survive until the enemies last character is knocked out.
Included is a sketch I made of the first game board (the final game would come with a set of at least five). I' trying to go for a style close to what you might have seen in the level select screen of Castle Crashers. I know I don't have much in the form of actual rules up yet, but does anyone have any suggestions or ideas they think would help a fast paced action game?
Close to finished right now, working on the characters. Going to make a more detailed map a little bit after I post the rules and play it; for now I just wanted to have something to play on. Not sure if I like the direction I'm going in just yet for the maps though.
This is the look I'm going for regarding the boards. Not quite there yet.

(Edit)
Didn't see the title of your post! The ingame reason for it would be parents not being around with the kids running rampant. Either at work or have it be an after school thing.
