I posted the first draft for the rules of a game I'm working on in the comments of a journal I wrote and need some advice on how to iron some things out.

I wasn't going for anything too complicated in terms of the set up, but right now my initial fear is that the game looks like too much of a number cruncher to me. I can picture a lot going on through the course of the game and can see how keeping track of points might be more of a hindrance than it should be. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Heya Three, Looks pretty

Heya Three,

Looks pretty heavy man - looks to shape up in a similar way to a full blown miniature war game or RPG. If you wanted to make it simple then scrap the points system somehow, that seems quite complex and if you didn't want people to get their notebooks and calculators out (not to mention simply forgetting to claim their points on something like attacking: "OH shit, I forget to get my attack points for that guy....but haven't I already shot him once? Hmm, how many points have you got? *calculator*"

So yeah, scrap that if you can - perhaps just a "10 credits per go" that they can spend on certain things. Alternatively no credits per go: maybe just "in this campaign map, you may summon 5 units and 2 robots as reinforcements on turn 5"

Also, each stat per unit is pretty intense as well, perhaps can you get some kind of "5 hits, 3 damage, special ability: Heal ally for 2 damage" thing going on? As opposed to minusing their armor from your THAC0 (lol old school) and adding your range modifier on your "long range damage" chart to your gun damage - especially so if each unit has it's own stats and each side has its own set of units too. Although, I do like the idea 3 - I'm getting a kind of heroclix 2d map board in my head, but maybe a bit thinner like plants vs. zombies - is this the right idea?

hope you're well buddy

Perhaps some kind of chess-like movement pattern? This would skew the game to be more geographicallly skillfull as opposed to number counting. EG my flying sentry can only move diagonals (sp?) and your scout unit must move in a kinght-like "L" shape.

Thanks for the input, Cog. I

Thanks for the input, Cog. I gave it a little more thought and ended up figuring out a way to take out points all together. I'll have something put up some time after tomorrow (I'm currently traveling via Greyhound. No pretty venture). Till then I'm still taking ideas if anyone else is interested in throwing their two cents in.
