Are there any games other than the ZatchBell TCG that use this mechanic?

Where you know your whole deck and its order before the game starts?

Is it possible to warp this mechanic away from a combative game?

I had never heard of this TCG

I really enjoy Card games including CCGs/TCGs. Never heard of ZatchBell either (Japanese Manga). I searched to get some information about this game. From what I understand the game uses a "Spellbook". So I guess you know the order of the spells in the book (seems logical).

This reminds me of Serpent's Tongue (ST)(https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/500894669/serpents-tongue-a-new-mag...)

Their website is: http://www.becomemagi.com

In this game the players have a Codex with spells. Seems similar to the TCG you mentionned. Serpent's Tongue has been wildly successful (especially if you look at funding of the game).

So I guess this mechanic is SIMILAR. I believe somebody told me that ST is more RPG-ish than a simple card dual. I have heard that there is solitary game play (for one player) also.

So to answer your OP, ST uses this mechanic for their RPG-ish solitary game play and obviously for duals. I believe the game even has Co-op multiplayer games (again RPG-ish)...

I haven't played the game, so I can't confirm the RPG element. What I saw early on was the fact that ST used a spellbook and a bastardized Hebrew language that is supposed to be the language used by Adam in the Garden of Eden.

It was definitely a cool

It was definitely a cool mechanic with the spell book and page turning. What is your definition of combat? What theme are you wanting to tie in with the mechanic.

That Serpent's Tongue does awesome, much larger in scope than I was expecting. I must look into it a lot further

My definition of combat is the pure attacking/defending type, though now that I think about it it could encompass a whole lot more.

I am trying to tie it in with a cooking game, where you know the contents of your recipe book. I wanted to use the recipe book as more of a side mechanic to a larger card game, however.
