Looking for a new mechanic for turnsequence in a hexbased wargame

Hello dear reader

For years i am developing a boardgame, its a wargame based on hexes in a fantasy setting.... right now i have a traditional turnsequence. Lately you see more and more nifty. smart other mechanics which made me think that the old you go i go secuence is outdated... also for wargames...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
what i have now is like this...

1 players have a set of commandcards in their hands based on the commandrating of all commanders of their side
in playing a card at the start of the turn the card gives information about the initiative, an event and mannapoints available that turn for spellcasters.... the cards are balanced on the initiative, the impact of its event and the mana so the player can gamble on what he thinks has most priority for him.

2 Connected units for a brigade (like in Warmaster) and command can be given to such a brigade and all units involved move under this command. Commands must succeed on a roll on the highest availabe leadership (a bit like in Warmaster) Both sides have three commandwaves at its proposal and a commandwave ends when teh player wants it to end, or no more units avaiable to move/command further (each unit can only move his max actionpoint) or when a command fails. (I like this like its done in Bloodbowl where a dice failure ends your turn). After these commandwaves combat is resolved.

This is a typical slightly enhanced you go i go sequence..... but i want a more exciting sequence.... Can you inform me about other nice sequences....?

And what do you think about wargames where a unit can be given several commands in the same round allowing the units to move across the field while other units are standing still...?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What I am thinking about is this.... i use a fivestep balance tracker between the players. Where the balancepointer starts in the centre. With each failure or by using balancepoints this pointer moves along the fivepoints tracker, example.

player 1
2 1 centre=0 1 2
player 2

Example: The tracker starts in the centre. player 1 starts and causes a commandfailure and the pointer shifts 1 step towards player 2. Now player 2 gets initiative. And makes a move until he fails. IF he dont fails, the pointer stays at 1 on his side and he can either gives initiative to player 1 or spend points on playing an commandcard or in combat can make a reroll when rolling for combat at the cost of one step.

In this way I want to achieve a more dynamic way of flow where all attention of the players is involved.

Even if the pointer reaches the end of the tracker lets say in teh advantage of player 1, player 2 can still play his rounds if player 1 doesnt use up his balancepoints. There can only be one commandcard active (facedown until played)...

Mannapoints represent available mannadices (some sort winds of magic like in warhammer) area part of the commandcard but how nice would it be if they are a part of the balancetracker? So using magic costs a point...

Rerolls are an important feature and besides for spellcasting and combat can also be used when testing on leadership.

I hope its understandable and do throw input to me I am open for all usefull info...

Check out the CrossFire

Check out the CrossFire miniatures wargame. It allows you to do almost anything any number of times until you lose initiative. Lots of good reviews. I bought the rulebook a few years ago, but still lack the (painted) minis or terrain to play. Also have a hex boardgame prototype that attempts something similar, but have not worked on that for 2-3 years.
