Playing around with the unique modifier. Playing with it a couple of different ways. I want it to represent something that you are only allowed to have one of in play, but I don't want it to only be First Come First Serve kind of thing. In Magic: The Gathering, the modifier is called Legendary and if someone plays the same legendary as one already in play, both get discarded. In the World of Warcraft: TCG each player is allowed their own copy of the unique card. I am still playing around with it working both ways. I like the idea of only one person having a particular unique in play, but there needs to be a way to destroy said unique items a lot easier. Not easily done with a powerful ship like the Torment.

The easy way to do this seems
The easy way to do this seems to keep the elimination element of Magic, but the new one stays. So it feels more like grabbing control of it than destroying it: this also has the benefit of keeping the Epic feel of the unique items, as they still aren't easy to kill per se.
There is a metagame problem to the Magic method though, in that it promotes a closed Metagame when the best way to beat a powerful card is to play it yourself...
Actually, I like the idea of the replacement effect, as if you wrested control of the technology or resource from someone. Will have to do some play testing with all the effects in game to see how they balance out.
