The Candy Man - An Idea from a 10 Day Challenge

Hello,

My family and I recently took the task on to compete in the 10-Day Limited Component Game Design challenge. Our basic idea is that you are using resources to complete recipe cards to gain victory points. The basic game was designed in 10 days. Now we are looking to toss it around and get critiques on how to make the game better (mechanics, components, etc) to hopefully eventually put it on kickstarter as a family game. So I am posting here in the hope that I can begin the discussions on what works and what could be better or what would you fix, etc. And thanks in advance for all advice/suggestions.

You guys are goofy! The game

You guys are goofy! The game is neat though. I could see myself playing this with my kids when they are a bit older.

In this game, you're also building recipes to score points. However, what is brilliant in this game is the way the players make temporary alliances every turn.

In the first phase, the available recipes for that turn are dealt out. Each recipe has 2 or 3 positions for avatars, and each player places his avatar on the recipe he wants to work on.

In the next phase, the players try to complete the recipes, with all the people who placed an avatar on that recipe contributing. Because the number of recipes is only half the number of players, it is pretty rare for any player to be doing a recipe on his own. So, while the players are pushed into cooperating, the cooperation is genuine. There's never incentive to backstab, which is why I think that this mechanic would make for a good family game.

The mechanics of how that game fulfills recipes is completely different from yours, and that game has other complicated features that make it too complex for young kids. But I do think that the one mechanic of the temporary teams would be great for a family game.

Interesting

@Zag24, interesting looking game. I do like cooperative like games (making alliances and teams) and think that tend very well to family games as well.
