Card Game about Titans

I played castlevania lord of shadows lately, and I found it interesting to learn the story behind the creation of the titans. I though that it could be interesting to make a board game about it.

Yesterday, I had a flash idea where I combined the idea of a titan with the idea to make a duel masters like card game (which would not be collectible). I thought that it would be much more interesting than using the classic summon monsters theme and it would also make sense. Here is the basic idea:

Each player is a titan which is composed of smaller creatures attached to the Titan. Each creature is represented on a card which can be used in different ways:

Armor: When the titan takes damage, cards are discarded from the deck. If the deck runs empty, the titan is destroyed. Creatures might have an armor value making them soak more damage when discarded.

Power: Like in duel masters, creatures can be sacrificed to supply mana that will be used for other things. So you'll have a power zone where every creature placed there generates 1 mane until the end of the turn.

Spells: each creature has a spell effect. If the creature is placed into the spell zone, the titan is allowed to use that spell ability if he can pay the appropriate mana to use it. So spells are reusable.

Creature: Each creature can be detached from the titan to be placed into play. Once in play, they can attack other creatures or attack the enemy titan.

With the model above, it make sens that losing HP make you lose creatures from your deck. Spells and mana would represent using creatures to channel them into your titan.

As for the theme, I was thinking to use a Chinese elemental model for the creature's sphere of magic:

Water= Ice creatures

Earth= Stone Creatures

Wood= Plant creatures

Metal= Technological creatures

Fire= Energy Creatures

What do you think?

Rather interesting. Bears some more thought about it all. I'd attempt to move away from the concept of mana altogether (gather X to play/summon Y card). Maybe a reverse deckbuilding mechanic that makes a deck starts huge and that gets depleted to "power" cool abilities. Dunno, need to think more about it.

While reading the description above, I felt underwhelmed by the idea of titans simply standing there and slugging it out. Got me thinking of including a human deck(s).
In a 2-player concept, one would be the titan and the other the human (Greeks?) trying to defeat the gigantic Titan.
Or even a semi-coop mode where each player's deck represents a city from Ancient Greece (Athens, Sparta, etc) and players compete to defeat the Titan or at least send its destruction towards the other cities?
An asymetrical setting might make things more interesting? (maybe just me).
And you could do cool things with the creatures falling off (discarded) like lava/fire creatures exploding and killing some human troops or ice creatures freezing troops so they can't attack for x many turns.
Just my 2 cents ;-)
