Does this game already exist? Market research help needed

Hi All

What a great forum!
Im currently design a Capture the Flag tabletop miniatures game.

I've begin doing market research to find other games like that in the Hobby Games market but as yet haven't found any (Tannhauser has a capture the flag variant this is the only thing so far and my game differs from that quite a bit). Now that's probably a good thing but I still think that, given it's not an original idea there must be quite a few out there. Obviously I need to find my competition. I'd hate to get quite far with the project and find I was redesigning someone else's game.

So does anyone know of any Capture the Flag games?
Ideally miniatures games but I spose anything close would be good.

Wiz-War is the first capture

Wiz-War is the first capture the flag game that pops into my head, but really it's not something you should worry too much about. Odds of you recreating a game close enough to another to matter are extremely small.

When you say "capture the flag" I assume you are referring to a game where two teams try to reach the opposing teams starting position to retrive something there and return with it to their own starting position? I can't think of a board game designed in this exact way right now but games where players competetively try to retrive something and bring it somewhere else do exist (e.g. blood bowl , Star of Africa).

I know steve jackson games

I know steve jackson games did frag, the first first person shoter boardgame. I dont think there is a capture the flag there but the gameis prity close, it could easaly be aded.

They also did strange synergy, witch is a capture the flage, sort of. You get one flag delt to you at random. The gole is to get your flag and get to youre base, or kill every one els.

So go and look at those two games.

Thanks very much for the info. I discovered Frag a few weeks back when searching but haven't looked into it more but I'll definitely do that and check out all the others mentioned. Thanks alot. Anymore suggestions are welcome.

You should check out

You should check out RoboRally, before you continue with your project. Although it's not technically a "capture the flag" style game, it involves reaching checkpoints instead.
