Came up with this idea a few days ago. Here is my brainstorm. Feel free to help out.
-Add cards to your deck to build character. Mostly skills and feat-like things in the deck. So you might draw "Sprint" or "Sing".
-All "characters" are considered to have the same attributes, so the entire character is defined by the cards in it's deck.
-The DM (Deck Master) will have her own special deck with events or something in it. These events will help guide the play session and allow her to score points somehow by completing them.
-The players can also score points somehow by using their cards.
-Players can take any action on their turns. The cards in their hand just help describe what they can do well. So the cards would just give a bonus to their roll or something.
The main things I'm trying to figure out are:
-how does the game end?
-how do the players and DM score points in a fair and balanced way?
Thanks for any input.
I haven't thought about many details yet. Just posted the idea here because it seems like a good project. The players would probably start with the same deck and they would collect experience or something in order to purchase new cards.
It's not exactly an RPG. It's got RPG elements but also has a defined goal and victor. Somehow the DM is also playing. The DM's role would obviously be different and would need its own way to score points. The even card deck is basically what I was thinking, but I would like the DM to have some control over what happens by buying cards for the event deck with points or something.
This game would be competitive co-op. So the players have to work together but are also trying to score more points than each other.
I'm trying to think of a cooler mechanic for point scoring.
My first thoughts for the game were to have it be very rules light but this wont work if players are competing with each other. With more structure, it will be easier to create a victory point scoring mechanic.
