Has this been made before?

I recently had an idea for a board game that involves flicking pieces onto a board like in football. Are there any games that match this? If you know any please let me know because I'm actually pretty darn psyched for this idea.

Thanks!

There are a lot of games with discs, but I don't know about the whole "flick it up above the table" aspect of "football". I imagine you always have the chance to do something better in any case.

(I just searched bgg for "flick".. there are a lot)

While it's not "Flicking it onto a board", one game does pop into my head that probably hits exactly the notes you want.

Basically, you flip tokens towards an armada of cards. If tokens land on any cards, you shoot down the alien ship.

I know I've seen other games that involve tossing pieces onto a board and even dabbled with a few myself, but I can't think of any in particular.

Martin Maly's Fleets At Battle

Take a look at Fleets At Battle by Martin Maly. He's (I believe) a German Designer who used to post topics and was an active member of BGDF's community... We haven't heard from him in a while... but here is an English video about his game which is sort of like "flicking" more like "tossing" maybe... To me, it seems to have a tactical feel to it too:

Take a look, like I said it is a very "tactical" aspect to the game which makes the game a bit of a "dexterity" game too. Players with the better "tossing" abilities can land and destroy cards more "efficiently", etc.

Cheers!

Re: Flicking pieces onto a board

Sounds like Dungeon Fighter. Basically you have to flick the pieces onto a target board. Some of the monsters make you do silly things like stand on one foot and face away from the table while you throw, etc. It was an alright game, pretty silly. Half-way between a party game and a more serious board game.

But I haven't heard of any other games aside from that one.

Not flicking, but ...

I saw this game on Kickstarter a little while ago, it doesn't flick pieces onto the board, but instead it uses a catapult.

That... is perhaps a good example of someone who needed to read more articles before launching.

$50k goal (close to 2000 units needed to be sold), no advance marketing plan, multiple expansions for a game that doesn't exist yet, at least two SKUs of the base game...

And yet somehow they have a full boxed prototype and a giant cut-out and a mariachi band in NYC, which is just... WHAT?!?

(oh, and it was clearly going nowhere anyway, but.. Kickstarter suspended it, I assume for racism reasons)

Yeah there was a lot of problems with that one I agree, but I just remembered that catapult. I actually have no idea why it was suspended, but this Kickstarter rule probably may have done it "Projects that promote discrimination, bigotry, or intolerance towards marginalized groups." I mean even if the theme was a parody, it wasn't put together well enough to see the satire.

Football?

I don't know where you are from, but I assume you mean American Football?

I don't know about that, but there are flicky games based on association football (soccer). There is a very old game called Subbuteo, which has been very popular in the UK for many years (and spawned spin-off games like cricket and (field) hockey). More recently, Osprey Games released Zoo Ball, which is a flicky soccer-based game.

I am certain there are a load more out there, but I'm sure there is space for another -- and, like I say, I don't know of any American Football ones.

There's an (American) game called "Football" which involves flicking a little paper thingy across a table, trying to get it to stop on the edge without going over. I assume that's what's being referred to.
