I made this cute little guy today. A hedgehog that can hold some cards in it's spikes.

Any ideas how to base a tiny game off of this?

I'm thinking something like a pick-up and deliver, or something that moves along a path of cards, or find some snacks to eat...

Brainstorm with me!

Awesome

Of course you can have a variant.
Where pins are added.
Maybe these pins contain fruits?
Maybe bigger objects need more pins to be carried.

Maybe with a round back, not only in length but in the width. You could have 2 or 3 cards. So they are easier to read. Of course I mean 1 card for each position in the length. So they would go zigzag.

Cards could be smaller in width. So they represent the needel's more.

Bus Passengers, etc.

I'm coming up blank with hedgehog-related ideas, but I can easily see this as a bus or other transport, carrying multiple passengers. Each card slot represents a seat on the vehicle moving passengers from place to place until they hop off at their chosen destination.

Could also be a cargo ship, with each card slot representing part of its hold. Or maybe a fishing boat, displaying the fish caught by its anglers.

There's an old game called Serenissima, which allowed for either crew or cargo to take up a portion of the limited space on the player's shipping vessels. The crew would do the rowing to make the vehicles go further, or the cargo would generate income when landed at a port. It might be interesting to see this kind of physical representation of that, with the crew maybe replaced with sails? Seeing various tall ships with different configurations of sails might have some impressive "table presence."

In Serenissima there was always a tension between balancing the resource of limited slots for either movement or income. Can you think of ways the limited spaces on the back of your animal here could force the player to make choices about how to balance different resources in limited space?

This hedgehog also makes me think of the old casual game Rack-O, where players would draw and discard cards, hoping to place the cards in their "rack" in the proper order.

Let-off's post made me think of something...

You know there is a puzzle about Wolves and a Fox and a BOAT. You need to figure out how to move all the Wolves AND the Fox to the other side, without the Wolves eating the Fox... Anyways when you read this (it may not be wolves or a fox, it may be a chicken, etc.) but the point is the same type of game with various animals.

So how does this work... And what is the relationship with the Hedge Hog???

Maybe each spot is reserved for some kind of FRUIT/ANIMAL. And there are PAIRS. So on the Hedge Hog you would PLACE SIX (6) cards. Either an Animal or Fruit. And at the same time, your opponent chooses SIX (6) cards for HIS Hedge Hog (concurrently).

Then Players take turn REVEALING the cards. You would place them BACKSIDE to HIDE the content of each of the Hedge Hog's loads.

So Player #1 would say Strawberry and Player #2 would reveal his third card which a Fox (who likes Strawberries). And then Player #2 would reveal a Monkey and Player #1 would reveal his 1st cards which is a Banana (Monkeys like Bananas and Bananas are eaten by Monkeys).

Something cute and fun like that... Anyways feel free to adapt, personalize or tailor this idea to a game for your Hedge Hog... Cheers!

Note #1: This can be a KIDS game for players 5 to 9 for example. Not 100% sure about the age group ... Just something to think about and work with (the concept).

Note #2: Some further thoughts. Maybe EACH player has an IDENTICAL DECK of 12 CARDS! Six (6) Animals and six (6) Fruits. Each Animal eats 1 Fruit and therefore each Fruit is eaten by 1 Animal. There are six (6) positions with the hedge hog. Each player chooses a mix of 6 cards out of 12 ... And face off each other.

For every MATCH you make, you get 1 Point. At most a player could score 6 points... Meaning Player #1 got ALL Matches and Player #2 got 0 Matches.

Note #3: This seems to be to be the nicest "DUEL" game between two younger players. For every match you get 1 point, no match equals no point. Turn-based, one Player alternating after the other.

Note #4: Two (2) MODES of play: random and select. In random, both players shuffle their 12 cards decks and randomly draw six cards to place on their Hedge Hog. In select, both players choose the six cards they want to place on their Hedge Hog. Two different approaches to a nearly identical type of game.

I looked this up after seeing your mention of it here, because it was familiar to me as well.

It's a classic puzzle where people frequently forget that it's not a one-way trip across. :)

Racing game programmed with card programming for movement

You could have some form of racing game where the hedgehogs race around and get directions from their preprogrammed cards. You could make it a standard course race (like formula de) or a first to get all the hedgehogs home navigating around the other hedgehogs (like chinka pig). Or maybe some sort of pick up and deliver.

I think you could give players some interesting choices by trading off the number of cards played vs movement priority. For example you could give the player that plays the least card the ability to move first. Or you could have the person that played the most cards have the ability to move first, but have less cards in their hand for future movememt.
