I have an idea to make a crazy chess game loosely following Alice though the looking glass. I have seen many Alice inspired chess sets but this would be more crazy than chess. chess board at a mirror image, pieces start on the opposite side as the player, It would not have all the typical chess pieces but custom ones.
I wonder if such a setup would be off-putting for people who are accustomed to chess? Would going "backwards" from the direction of typical chess or checkers be too confusing?
both sides have the same pieces, and it is laid out pretty similar to chess since the book its inspired by was actually supposed to be chess (though it didn't have all the chess pieces and white played too many times in a row). So Im not really worried that people would compare it to chess, more that they might get easily confused.
for example, I was just thinking of how a mad magazine game I had once insisted you always roll dice with your left hand, drove people crazy because it wasn't what is accustomed. I like silliness in games, but not so much it makes them too hard to remember how to play.
