Every halloween, I create a murder mystery type game for X number of people (whoever rsvp's). This year I wanted to do something unique but I'm not great at linking things together via clues.
Here are some ideas so far
- Every person who RSVP's will receive a package a few days before the party. The package will contain a security footage of a person being kidnapped but some masked man. It will also contain a encrypted message that is the first clue that they must decode.
- At the party, the guests will be given the instructions and story of what happened. The story will be they will be collaborating with the FBI on this investigation due to their knowledge of the victim or thats what they are told. So there will be simple FBI website they can access. The killer/kidnapper will be among the group so I need to find a way to lead to a solution.
Those are the ideas I have so far but I dont know how to link them all together with clues. I thought about having an Alias on the FBI website for each guest with an unsolved mystery and the guests can then interrogate that person to solve it with a time limit or one of them.
I would like to have a system to kill them off but then allow the dead people to help/join the killer's side.
Any input or ideas would greatly help.
I do like the classic murder mystery mechanic with everyone having a backstory and clues they can reveal, and clues they must reveal. I wanted to try something new. Possibly something like Ultimate Werewolf but more complicated and customizable involving more mystery instead of point and kill.
