Hi Everyone,
Thanks all for your overwhelming response to my previous Game Design - Donkey Donkey (Racing Adventure Game). Donkey Donkey game has turned up pretty well due to all your feedback and it has successfully entered the Play testing phase. Will update on the Donkey Donkey once playtesting phase is completed.

Now Ive completed my 3rd Game Design - Fruit Basket; it is a small Collectible Card Game (CCG) (if it can be called so) for Kids. It is simple die based Card Game for the Kids. Please check out Game Rules.

Waiting for all your valuable feedback.
Also would like to know if there any similar games.

Cheers
Ash.

Initial thoughts

Your numbers are off for the number of fruit cards. 24 x 3 = 72, not 64. Having only 3 copies of each fruit means that you could never create sets of fruit. You also have Watermelon listed as both Green and Blue (not sure if that was intentional.)

I think you should reduce the number of fruits in each color to allow more than 3 copies of each fruit to make sets happen in a quicker fashion. If you had 3 fruit in each color, and 6 copies of each fruit, you'd end up with 18 per color, or 54 fruit cards.

You didn't make it clear when refilling their hand, after laying a set of cards, if you need to roll the dice for each card to know what color it was coming from. 10 sets also seems like a really long time for kids to keep their interest in collecting fruit. You should probably lower this number, and make sure the game lasts more like 15 - 30 minutes instead of 30 - 45.

The game, in a nutshell, is just a varient of Gin Rummy, but you have a random dice roll deciding what "suit" of cards you can pick from, and then you can't pick up the discards of another player. You may want to look into modifying both of these choices.

Some other things to consider are removing the dice element completely, and just having them

Thanks

Thanks Topdeck.
Yeah 72 not 64 thnx; Watermelon a typo :).

Once a set is formed yes the Kid has to roll the die for each Card he wants to pick until his total in hand is 7.

Since it is a game where I wanted to show / teach about the different fruits to the kids (was planning to have small writeup about each fruits at the bottom of each card); so i wanted to keep many fruits as possible.
So I'm just reiterating on the numbers
A. 5 sets of same fruits for each set; 4 different fruits for each set; Total: (5*3) * 4 = 60 cards for each set.
B. 4 sets of same fruits for each set; 5 different fruits for each set; Total: (4*3) * 5 = 60 cards for each set.
C. 6 sets of same fruits for each set; 4 different fruits for each set; Total: (6*3) * 4 = 72 cards for each set.

It is fine; if it feels like a variant of any Game, as long as there is no same game in the market. Unlike in Rummy you have 3 different decks with different fruits and the Die is the decider.

I want to keep the Dice because it adds luck factor and for Kids I think this to be an important factor. Yes collecting the sets is kind of skill; but it is overridden by the luck of Dice, so it plays common across to all kids irrespective of their individual skill level. That was the idea of having the Dice.

I was also thinking of having 4 different colors; with the Dice having four colors and one blank side where the player cannot pick any card and one mixed color side where he can choose to pick from any of the 4 color Deck's.

Yeah picking from the Discard pile could be added, let me just start playtesting then I could get an idea.

Rule Addition
Special Card: a Special Card called Fruit Basket is available, If a player has not formed any set for the last 5 turns then he can pick it up and use it. When a player uses the Fruit Basket card, he calls out a particular fruit card, then every player who has that fruit card should give it to him. This will enable him to for a Set and get a Fruit Basket. Then in the next turn all players are allowed to pick 2 cards to make their total in hand as 7.
What do you think of this Special Card.

I aim this Game at 5+ kids, will that age group actually get an idea of this game?

Cheers
Ash.

I do not realt see how the game works. You start with 7 cards, roll a dice and pick a new card, ad the card to your hand. Then it is the next players turn. Once you have a set, 3 of the same type, you get to put them down infront of you. Then you say you get to redraw up to 7 cards. But I think it is more likley that you will have over 7 cards in your hand, do you get to keep them also? Is there a hand limit?

Normaly when you make a kids game you try and teach them somthing, like math for an example, here I am not shore what you are trying to teach them. Exept the facts abou the frouts you are gonna put on the cards. Also seeing that the game is from 4 and up not many of those kids are able to read anny way so I think you might aswell skip that part.

Also I do not se how this is a CCG, I think maby you have misunderstod what a CCG is. It is not a game where you collect things using cards, well it can be. It is a game where you buy and collect new cards. And you use these cards to make your own deck and play the game with this deck of cards.

Also you have a typo in your rules:
"Eg: if he rolled Blue then he would pick the top card from the Green Deck."

Why would you collect a green card if you roled blue???

Latest Update

Hi,
Its been a long time since I visited my Game and here I'm back with some updates, thanks all for the valuable feedback, it helped refine the Mechanics a bit more.
New Story:
Help Grandma Della to collect fruits and Vegetables from her Backyard Garden. You have to collect the Fruits and Vegetables separately in their respective bowls.
Age: 6 Years and above
2-4 Players
Game Components:
4 Colored Card Sets
Each Card set will contain 2 Vegetables and 2 Fruits
Green Cards - 2 Green Fruits and 2 Green Vegetables: Pears, Grapes, Cucumber & Beans
Blue Cards - 2 Blue Fruits and 2 Blue Vegetables: Plums, Blueberry, Eggplant & Cabbage
Red Cards - 2 Red Fruits and 2 Red Vegetables: Apple, Cherry, Tomatoes & Beetroot
Orange Cards - 2 Orange Fruits and 2 Orange Vegetables: Pineapple, Oranges, Carrots & Mangoes
All the Cards are placed face down so the color of each Card is not visible to the Player.
All the Fruits and Vegetables Tokens
*No Dice now

Game Mechanics:
Each player starts with 5 random Cards in his Deck.
The youngest players starts first,
Turn Overview:
1. He looks at his card and if he has 3 same colored Cards then he can exchange those 2 cards for a Fruit or Vegetable Token of the same Color.
2. Then he picks 3 cards randomly to fill his deck of 5 cards. The exchanged or dropped Cards go to the the Discard Pile.
3. If he does not have 3 same colored cards, he is allowed to drop one card and pick one card to his Deck.
4. Or he can just simply skip his turn without dropping or picking any cards.

This goes on like this until all the Cards from the base pile is over or whoever gets 3 Fruits or 3 Vegetable Token is Winner.
The players are allowed to exchange Fruits or Vegetables at will if the other players has what the Player needs.

Thanks in advance again for your valuable Feedback.
Thanks
Ash.

Trading?

During the playtesting of your game, was there much trading between players? Since all players seem to have the same requirements for victory, are people willing to trade tokens that might be helping the other player?

For ages 6+, I think you have a good, simple game play that should be easy for players to learn.

Good luck with your design!

Thanks Orangebeard for the feedback, yeah I was planning thats the kids can exchange tokens. So the kids can learn simple trading system.
But I was actually planning to have varied victory Goals.
3 Vegetables
or
2 Vegetables + 1 Fruit
or
1 Vegetable + 2 Fruits

Any suggestions or improvement for the mechanic?

Thanks
