Hi all.
CONCEPT: tiles and changing rules. Sci-fi in nature-- fun, but not Munchkin goofy. The tagline I'm working with now is:
"GAME NAME: Random Rules, Rocketships, Robots, and Ray-Guns."
Your mission is to, from two "draw-10" steps, create the best Array of 5 tiles based on the current round's rules. The basics here are poker-esque (N-of-a-kind, flush, straight, etc.) and you will score points for each of 5 rounds based on the final array. Special tiles allow for all kinds of tomfoolery when included in an Array.
Main points are still coalescing into a rules document, so sorry to be vague.
My art is actually some of the Wingding fonts here: http://www.dafont.com/theme.php?cat=701&page=1. I'm trying to use the "Free" ones in the final run, but selected:
-- Lost Robo
-- Rayguns (duh)
-- Number One
-- Alphabots (for a suit I'm calling "Sklorbs")
-- Space Station HokusPokus, and
-- Rangers Ray Rocketeers
Speaking of Dafont's Wingding section, there are some amazing picture fonts that inspired me in all kinda ways. Just putting it out there for prototyping. All the fonts are at least free to try, some Shareware, some "free for personal use" (with varying "you must pay" or "donate" rules; see the fonts' ZIP files for readme documents). If anyone else knows good weird-font sites (I use 1001freefonts.com a lot), I'm always open to it.
I think I'm going to go with Rocketships and Rayguns (spell-checker be damned). It conveys the fun/friendly vibe of the game really well and leaves the Robots part as a kick-ass surprise.
And who doesn't love Sklorbs? I'll tell ya...nobody.
Rules doc starting to Gel...keep watching for a game journal for critiquing. Does BGDF allow pdf uploads to do PnP demoing? If not, Google Docs to share? Dralius and Traz seem excited to have a look at it, so I'm hoping to stir up some good readers/testers here.
