I'm working on a railroad game that uses static routes to cities (think like Ticket to Ride or Union Pacific). I've noticed that a lot of train games seem to use virtually the same cities and routes (when routes are static). I suspect that this is due to real life routes and stations, but I don't know much about trains themselves.

What cities and/or routes should I include in my game design (I'm planning on a US map)?

Where can I learn more about existing routes and stations (to make my map make sense)?

Just try to google railway

Just try to google railway conection point or city in teh us, you will probobly get prity good result. Or just go to a train entusiast forum and ask what ar the biggest connection points in the US.

I myself live in sweden so I have no ide about the US. Al I can say is that the ticket to ride - Nordic contries map is compleatly wrong. The rail system in sweden uses smal town as key points, and on the playboard they hjave taken the largest town closest to the actual railway town. And al my friends have reacted to this, most of teh seds know severay key cities. So almost every one will react to the fact that they ar wrong in teh game. So be carfull and use tghe right one, do a lot of reasearch. I do not think you will get any halp here with the names of the citys. To fue people here and the intrests are to fare away I think fore any one to be a train freek from the us here.

But good luck to you in your reasearch. =)

Good point

Thanks. I should have thought about checking out railroad enthusiast sites for the info.

Kudos! :)

RR

RR enthusiasts have Train Spotter clubs. http://www.tripbase.com/c/trainspotting/
They have the info you seek. Lines close to me of interest are the Saluda Grade, in NC and the line at Erwin, TN that runs along the Nolichucky Gorge.
