seeking puzzle building theme

I'm looking for theme suggestions that are compatable with puzzle building:

1. Family/kid friendly
2. Like Carcassonne, there is a push-your-luck element in that some roads and castles don't get completed.
3. Players have their own building areas by playing cards in front of them by adding to existing structures (or perhaps more than one). It would be unlike Carcassonne in that there would be no collective structure.

A silly example with be a Mr. Potato Head with cards representing various body parts. However, I'd like to be able to expand certain areas and/or make more than one in various sizes.

Thanks in advance.

On the subject of themes Designer,

Check out my "what are some unexplored themes" and "what theme should I use" thread for my Atompunk card game, it might be useful.

plant grower

I checked out the list and Plant Grower was the one that stood out since you could start with a base card and collect branches, leaves, and trunks to expand with. However, I'm looking for something a little more playful to appeal to kids. Any other ideas like this?

I think that plant growe is pretty cool - you could extend it to flowers. Either normal happy faced sunshine flowers, or perhaps crazy alien-y flowers that are all strange and interesting, but still very colourful and playful?

Yeah, I'm not discarding the idea yet since whimsical artwork could make it visually compelling.
