Sideline Series (Pocket Sports)

I regularly share my posts and videos on the TableTop Sports forum. For most part, the videos get watched and I've picked up a few customers which is great.

The types of sports dice game they tend to like are stat & charts based games with accurate player ratings and historical teams.

So I've been thinking and tinkering with a simpler 2D6 Team Manager style game. I've coined the name 'Sideline Series' to instil the career mode/feel of taking a team through the local league to the top flight Premier Division.

It's really is just rolling dice and seeing the result of a match in the beginning of the game as you move through a season accruing points and money to book a place in the finals. Obviously winning the final allows you to move up a division.

I'm trying to add some 'coaching' mechanics and so far I'm using any 'doubles' rolled to allow modifiers to improve your Manager, money won on matches to purchase key personnel which in turn improve your dice rolls and chances of winning matches etc.

All of this carries over into the next season / division allowing you to build up a better team & facilities etc.

This is how it is mumbling inside my head anyway!

It's still very rough but I've attached my initial draft and a play through result of a short season I completed this morning.

If I can get this one working it can then be reworked for all the other Pocket Sports games (Hockey / Gridrion / Basketball) and may attract more Tabletops Sports peeps by naming teams actual names!

Love to hear any and all feedback :) Thanks for reading this far!

Player through again....same

Player through again....same result...got to the final and lost.

Cashed up with 8 wins and can purchase MANAGER options for 3D6 roll to keep for finals but......the game needs some further work.

Still haven't advanced out of this division....going into 3rd year (?)

Salary cap mechanic or draft?

Could you introduce a salary cap mechanic or a draft at the start of the season where you could lose some players? Or maybe spend points to get a better player but it costs more points to get them for more than one season, but if you do get them for one season & you win then the cost to renew the contract goes up?

A salary cap may let you get someone really really good at one aspect but then you have more risk in the other categories as you have less cash to spend. It might make it easier to balance in the long run?

Yes....I'm looking to

Yes....I'm looking to introduce a table of options to spend money on. Having to play a season or two and earn money is part of the 'history' of your team.

I've made some changes and have updated the link...but so far you can spend on a better Striker / Goalies. Purchase COACH rolls which allow for a 2 die reroll. Manager rolls which allow a roll of 3D6, choice of two.

VENUE upgrades now need collecting if 6 levels.

POST game events on heavy losses to add theme and hurt the bank roll (Ie Twitter rant by Team Captain after match - FINE $1000)

I played through 5 seasons before getting enough COACH / MANAGER / SPONSORS to sure up enough rerolls to win through the final.

The upper division you advance to will be harder, require more WINs to get into finals, harder finals, etc

Spin off series?

Will you do a card drafting spinoff series for Soccer Wives?

Not a bad idea

A terrible joke....but actually not a bad idea for the female gaming audience.

If you have something on this, let me know. Otherwise the wheels are turning :)

It's all yours

I have nothing, it started as a joke & the more it nagged at me the more I thought that there could be something there. Treading that fine line of sexism would be tough.

I was thinking of it being a standalone game in its own right but then having a version of both games where they each influence the other so that the new game is greater than its parts. Bring couples together over sports dice or break them up if one of them rolls badly.

If you get started keep posting as I'd be interested to see where it goes.
