Speedsticks!
Players: 2-4
Time: 5-10 minutes
Components:
1 board
49 pegs
-16 red pegs
-16 blue pegs
-16 yellow pegs
-1 white peg
3 custom dice (d6 with red on 2 sides, blue on 2 sides, yellow on 2 sides)
4 pairs chopsticks
4 cups
Setup:
Players put the pegs colored head up in the 49 holes that make up the board grid. Pegs can go in any pattern so long as the white peg goes in the exact center.
Regarding Hands:
At no time during active play is a hand to touch the board, whether to stabilize it or whatever. In the early game, be lenient because there will be no direct competition for resources for the first turn guaranteed and likely not until turn 3. In the late game, if somebody bumps the board with a hand, that player must bring his hands back (by, say, touching the chopsticks to his or her nose or elbow or something) and then try again. Feel free to adjust the board between turns.
The Turn:
Players take turns rolling the three dice. Once rolled, players must remove pegs from the board that match the colors on the dice and place them in their cup. If a player cannot do so, that player is eliminated. For each of the primary colors that no longer exist on the board, roll one less die.
The White Peg:
The White Peg is the saving grace of those who are unable to otherwise complete a turn. If and only if a color is required that no longer exists on the board, the White Peg may be taken. For example, if yellow is required and only one yellow exists on the board, the White still cannot be taken until somebody picks up that yellow and drops it into his or her cup. If the White is picked up early, its awesomeness eliminates the offending player. Following a successful White Peg grab, return it to its place on the board for future conflict.
Winning:
If one player remains, that player wins. If, somehow, only the White Peg remains and multiple players are left, all remaining players win.
Players take turns rolling because rolling will tend to slow you down. This spreads that issue out amongst everyone evenly. The game is a mad grab and you roll after every grab of 1-3 pegs to determine what your next mad grab is. If you drop a peg, I suppose somebody can swipe it, but I don't want to hear of people going after pegs firmly in somebody's sticks.
