A game, at its base consists of : Mechanics, Bits, and a Theme. The rest is superfluous.
Some Background:
I am thinking of either launching into creating a new card game (mechanics and details and bits to be announced as they happen!) or launching a full scale "Board Game Designers Forum" members' game. Where we can all chip in and develop something together. But it got me thinking, RPG, Aliens, WW2, Future Wars, Dystopian Society, Train Simulation, Racing Cars, New World Americas Exploration, European City Resource Management, Futuristic Robot Warriors, Superheroes etc. these have all been done, hashed, rehashed, murdered and done again; some better than others, so What are some unexplored themes that you think have alot of milage in them, or some that have never been done before and you wonder why?
Ideas:
- War Correspondent / News Journalist
- School Yard Bully / Geek-Group at school
Let's start with "War Correspondant" some kind of news team or journalist struggling to get stories to satiate his employers News Corp a la Clark Kent or Peter Parker.
You could have NPC's such as Camermen, Boom Operators, Drivers, Local Correspondants, Snitches, people "working for you" in other big companies, Whistleblowers etc.
Perhaps victory would be somehow to do with acruing the best stories and publishing the best journals via some kind of quest system : "Get the inside scoop on the current civil war in X" you would need to accomplish certain things in order to get the rewards offered by the quest.
