i have come up with a game but a) i dont know if its original and b) i dont know how to describe it.
i think its a card based solo dungeon crawl, but i have seen so many "definitions" of game genres im not sure. . you start with base stats of health and strength, a goal to achieve and a "dungeon deck". each turn you flip over the top card of the deck. if it is an item you can keep it (discard later for effects). if you draw a monster you can hide (put it in a "shadow pile"
to deal with later) fight (loose strength, keep the monster) or flee (loose health/strength, discard the monster) all the monsters have various fight/flee/draw/discard effects. complete the quests (ie kill 10 monsters), count your loot, your current stats become base stats. rinse an repeat until death.
what type of game have i made?

Sounds like a reasonable description.

Well, boardgamegeek.com is obviously the place to go for research, but I wouldn't search on "RPG". Well, if you are keeping the same character through dungeon after dungeon, sure, I see what you're saying, but still not a great search term. Maybe "roguelike".
