Hello everyone,

I don't know if this is the correct place to post this, but it has been suggested by many that I get my rulesbook available for people to check out my game.

As of right now, it is just all over the place and not pretty.

I would like to have a rulebook that is edited for clarity, grammar, etc. Something that is easy for new players to read, but also manageable for experienced players.

I also am needing a quick play sheet.

Is there anyone on here who has experience doing this? If so, are you able to format the rules into a "RuleBook" style?

Thanks so much,
Jonny

What's wrong about putting it up here now? Yes, you can still try and find a person to do the editing, but more eyes on a project is always good.

I don't know how comfortable you are about releasing your rules, but it would only do you good.

Rulebook

It's my understanding that Adobe InDesign is the go-to program for rulebook creation; so if you have access to that it could be a big help.

Writing a rulebook is work.

Writing a rulebook is work. And extremely hard one at that.
With my last game it took me about two months to write a rulebook.
Since you are self-publishing, noone will do that work for you.

You don't really need the rulebook to be pretty (at this point). And you shouldn't care about grammar and such at this point either. Start with a simple word file (maybe with some draft diagrams), print it out and hand it over to people who never played your game before, along with a prototype.

Let them figure out how to play your game, using just those rules. Don't explain anything yourself. Observe and note the mistakes they are making. Chances are this is because some answers are missing from the rulebook.

While testing the game, write down all the questions you are being asked. Make sure that the answers to any question which is asked repeatedly is in the rulebook.

There's much more to it than fits the forum post. Do your research.

Here are some useful videos on the subject from the top of my head:
