Hello Community,
attached to this post is a sample page from the downloadable PDF rulebook of our upcoming game - gods & minions.

This version of the rulebook will be freely available and is simpler and cleaner in layout, this enables players to easily print the rulebook at home using their home-office printers. I tried to keep the page layout as simple as possible, but still put some eyecatchers here and there.

i consider it final, but maybe you have an idea (or two) what could be changed / made better?

thank you for any feedback!

The layout seem simple and clean, but can you give us an example of how side box text and illustration will be done. You can put dummy text if you want.

i dont think i understood

i dont think i understood that correctly. what do you mean by "side box text and illustration"? could you please specifiy?

the brown, swung parchment on the side is just a decoration (lets it look more like a old book or scroll, but i cannot fill the whole background with this texture or the text becomes unreadable).

right now there is only the page number on each page, should i add the chapter title somewhere too?

For the home printable

For the home printable version this seems fine Fitz :)

Remember that there might be one or two pages that do not work with the layout (black and white printers might have a problem with the right scroll effect on the page - have you tested out printing it in black and white - it would be annoying if it it obscured all of the rules written on it: then every page on the manual would have this section unreadable!) and without having the full rules in this style I don't think we can really say if it is or isnt going to work on the whole. But based on the one page that you supply - it looks really cool :)

Rememebr that some people dont mind printing out all the colours and using fancy printring paper etc - so they would really like all of the colour pictures and things - but of course to these people you could simply say "Well, you if you buy the game, you get the full colourful rules!" ;)

Looks good :)

hey Cogentesque, yes this is

hey Cogentesque,

yes this is just the free print-n-play version, the fancier "super rulebook version" will be reserved for paying players only :-)

i tested it on two printers (home and at the company) and it works fine. but i will also adress your concern: it could be, that on older printers the contrast on the parchment part is bad. so i will make the parchment on the side a bit smaller and maybe re-format the text so it does not touch the parchment at all.

Cool, to be honest it might

Cool, to be honest it might be easier and more effective if you just lightened the scroll side up a bit - wash it out or increase the opacity and make it just a little lighter so the printers would be able to differentiate the colour easily :)

Another thing you can do is

Another thing you can do is apply a white glow around the letters so they contrast more against the parchment, leaving most of the parchment as is.
