Prototype Quality

Hello, after I do extensive rounds of play testing, I at some point would like to take out to conventions and submit it. I have no clue what the quality of a prototype should be. I was just wondering if someone has a picture of what they used when they submitted or what they use when they want out. I made my game on word documents and art pads with no intent to make it flashy. That's okay as play test with local groups and friends but I dunno if that's good for things like protospiel or publishers.

On a side note is protospiel still around or a convention where I can take my prototypes to test. The website for Rincon and protospiel are down and I'm looking around and I have no clue.

I asked the same topic some

I asked the same topic some times ago on BGG. Some people posted pictures in that thread as example. You should take a look!

Sorry about the Protospiel

Sorry about the Protospiel site being down for so long. I hope to have it up and running by this weekend so we can start pr-registration for this year’s event which is in Ann Arbor as usual, July 6-8.

I don't tend to take pictures of my prototypes but i do have www.bgdf.com/node/2570 for my game Tahiti. It was used as an example in my prototypes rule book that used the same graphics as the prototype. I created them in word, printed out the graphics on plain paper, cut them out and used spray glue to attach them to Catan hexes. As you can see it's nothing fancy.

I have worked closely with several game publishers and I think the general consensus is functionality is the first priority. It needs to be good enough so it can be played and nothing more. I have seen some crappy looking prototypes given full consideration.

Tahiti is under license by Minion Games and we expect to have it out in 2012. Proof enough that the prototype dosn’t have to be pretty just pretty fun to get published.
